2. Travel Guide to Ghositaram Temple         

The temple follows the Theravada Buddhist school of the Khmer, Ghositaram Pagoda was built in 1860 and was first inaugurated in 1872.

After hundreds of years of existence, the pagoda began to deteriorate and was restored in 2001.

It took nearly 10 years to build the main hall of the new temple, which was completed with an area of ​​​​more than 400m2 and a height of 40m.

The towers above the main hall were built and decorated very elaborately in the Khmer architectural style.

The porch and side walls of the pagoda are depicted with mascots from Khmer culture and images of Buddha’s life.

Inside the main hall of the pagoda, there are many carved carvings, embossed reliefs, patterns with high artistic value.

Ba Pagoda, also known as Dia Mau Cung, next to Ong Quan De Temple. This is also a tourist destination in Bac Lieu mentioned quite a lot in the list of must-visit places when coming to Bac Lieu.

2. Travel Guide to Dia Mau Cung

Dia Mau is Dia Mau Nuong Nuong, in Chinese legend, Dia Mau means “Mother of the Earth” is the god who governs the land.

Ba Pagoda or Dia Mau Cung was built in 1919. The pagoda was jointly built by the Chinese community living in Bac Lieu, with the belief that Earth Mother will protect them to have a peaceful and happy life.

Originally, the area was not too large, but this place always gives people a dignified feeling. The first impression is that the temple gate is built firmly with the inscription Dia Mau Cung above.  Behind the gate is a large clean yard, on the right is the temple of Than Ho, and on the left is the place to worship Ba.

Ba Pagoda was built with a fairly simple architecture, with a red tile roof in the shape of fish scales divided into 3 separate layers.  On the roof, there is a statue of a dragon. A dragon image coiling along the columns in front of the main hall is beautifully embossed, and adjacent to the two front walls are decorated with a dragon shape exuding majesty and splendor.

The main hall of Ba Pagoda is divided into 3 compartments, in the middle is the place to worship the Mother Goddess, two statues are placed on the splendid altar, with many meticulously decorated patterns and curtains. The mansion was built by Mr. Tran Trinh Trach, the Council of Trach, the father of Prince Bac Lieu when he was 19 years old.  Mr. Tran Trinh Trach is the owner of 74 fields of land, with 110,000 hectares of rice land and nearly 100,000 hectares of salt fields.  At that time, the whole province of Bac Lieu at that time had 13 plots of salt fields, 11 of which were his.  Mr. Trach has 7 children, 4 girls and 3 boys.  Out of 3 sons, Tran Trinh Huy is notoriously known for his love of girls.  It is known that the total amount of assets that Bac Lieu’s son inherited and “spent” on luxury entertainment is estimated at over 5 tons of gold.

The villa was designed by a French engineer, most of the building materials were brought from Paris.  Many details, materials, and furniture in the house are imported from France, from the bolts, screws to construction details, all of which are stamped with the letter P indicating the origin.

According to these anecdotes, the Cong Tu Bac Lieu, a Vietnamese, owns the first plane in the country; first visit to the field by plane; the first organizer of a beauty contest (precursor to later beauty contests) in Cochinchina… Being a Bac Lieu person, owning a lot of land, the salt department (the land for making salt), and coal mining, so he is very rich.  Typically, the story of the contest of burning money to cook tea with Bach Cong Tu or “Bac Lieu prince burning money to cook eggs to prove he was rich” went into the lyrics…

The kitchen part of the house was converted into a ticket counter for guests.  The house also displays many objects associated with the anecdote of “Black Duke”.  This car was bought by Mr. Tran Trinh Trach in 1930 in Saigon to pick up his son, Cong Tu Bac Lieu, from studying abroad in France.

Visiting the house of Bac Lieu’s son, you will now admire the remaining precious artifacts such as: 2 hot beds and cold beds, a set of sofas made from 1 solid wood panel, a set of “Tam Lan” turntables (round table made of stone, triangular kneeling legs carved with 3 unicorns), set of “Penguin Statue” (pictured with an armchair placed on an elephant’s back), stall “Tam Thanh” (3 walls) is Tran Trinh Khuong’s sleeping place  , brother of the Cong Tu Bac Lieu), the bed of Mr and Mrs. Council of Trach, a bed for guests to smoke opium, a card table, a vase of flowers, etc. are all very valuable items.

Although there has been a lot of loss over time, what is left is enough to prove a pompous and regal life of the owner of the house.

Most of the objects in the Cong Tu Bac Lieu house are preserved intact.  Many gadgets such as music players, desk phones even still work.

One place people stop the longest is the altar of Mr. Tran Trinh Huy and his first wife.  It is said that no one can count how many wives he has, but the first wife is Mrs. Ngo Thi Den, who is well-married, the child of a wealthy patron in the area.  The rest are his concubines, including a woman of French nationality.

In 1973, Venerable Thich Tri Duc came here, realized the sacredness of this place, so he built it into a more spacious temple.  The Venerable Master built an 11m high Quan The Am Bo Tat (Not counting the statue’s pedestal) with a view of the sea.  The statue was built in 2 years and completed in 1975.

At the time of construction, the Nam Hai Buddha statue was placed close to the sea; Every time the tide rises, the sea water overflows, sometimes flooding the base.  Over the years, due to the accretion of nature; The location of the monument is now located nearly a kilometer from the sea. The statue of Quan Am with soft, holy, and benevolent features gives visitors a warm and peaceful feeling when admired.  Standing in front of the statue of Buddha burning incense and sincerely praying for good things for their families and relatives, visitors will find their souls at peace, serenity, all worries and sorrows like disappearing.

In 2004, the local government granted permission to expand the temple further.  People from all over the world come to visit Nam Hai’s mother temple and have donated money to expand the temple further. In 2005, the works were constructed in turn, including: Tam Quan gate, Thien Thu Thien Nhan temple, and Dia Tang temple.  and some side projects.

Quan Am Phat Dai has a spacious and airy space with sea breeze blowing in.  Stepping through the three-way gate is the gate of heaven, followed by the majestic Hang Long – Phuc Ho screen.  Adjacent to the screen is a large hall with a banner up to 49 meters high.  From here, visitors can see the statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara sitting on a lotus, flanked by Thien Phu and Dia Tang temples. In front of the ceremony yard is a screen of Phuc Ho and 32 incarnations of Bodhisattvas.  All harmonize to create a majestic and dignified cultural space.

Quan Am Palace is a large row of houses located to the left of the statue of Buddha, seen from the inside to the gate.  Quan Am Palace was built in the architectural style of ancient Vietnamese pagodas. To the right of the Nam Hai Buddha statue, also in the direction of the view from the inside to the gate is the Dia Tang Palace.

Prominent here is Quan Am mountain built in front of the statue of Buddha which is facing the sea.  Quan Am Mountain is a bold Buddhist architectural work.  In the heart of the mountain is a great hall, recreating the history of the Buddha preaching the Dharma Flower Sutra at Mount Ky-sa-quat (India).

There are two main types of Mi Sua: salty and non-salty. Connoisseurs say that the salty Mi Sua is the best.
