Facts: Tube cake is one of the few cakes that has spread beyond the Khmer community.  It is not only familiar in the Phum squirrel but also gradually moving to the big cities.

2. Better to Know Khmer-style tube cake

Tube cake is a rustic cake of the Khmer people. Although it is not very popular, this is also a delicious and cheap snack that children love.

The bamboo tube for making the mold is sawn across a length of about 20cm.  In the middle, there are bellows attached to the wind scraping coin to make the bottom of the mold. Today, few people use bamboo tubes, but people only make aluminum for convenience. Place the tube upright on the lid of the pot, in the pot containing the water. Put the powder into a bamboo tube like a water bath. Let it sit for about two minutes and the cake is done. When the cake is cooked, pull the stick and gently put the cake on the banana leaf. The scent of coconut water is sweet, the scent of pandan leaves is faint. Therefore, in some places, it is also called pandan leaf cake because of the smell of pandan leaves. Tube cake is served with a little grated coconut, sprinkled with a little white sesame salt or crushed peanuts.

Long round tube cake, pure white soft and spongy. Some people mix green food into the flour, but it’s not good. Freshly brought out cake must be eaten hot to be delicious and enjoy its full flavor. Those who eat tube cakes for the first time feel like eating beef cakes, maybe because they are all made of rice flour, although the processing methods are different. For the children in the countryside back in the day, it was delicious to eat such simple cakes.

Ingredients For Tube Cake

Rice flour: 500 grams, Sticky rice: 250 grams Pandan leaf powder, Coconut water: 200ml White granulated sugar: 4 tbsp.

How To Make Powder

Put rice flour, glutinous rice flour and granulated sugar in a bowl, mix well.  You can sift the dry flour mixture through once to remove the remaining particles, making the dough smoother.

Dissolve pandan leaf powder with a little hot water so that the mixture becomes a paste, slightly sticky.  Next, add coconut water to the pandan leaf powder, stir well to combine the ingredients.

Filter the pandan leaf powder once and then mix it with the glutinous rice flour mixture, stirring to obtain a smooth, beautiful pandan cake powder.

How To Steam Delicious tube Cake

Put the steamer on the stove, add water and bring to a boil.  Then, wrap a wet towel around the mouth of the pot to prevent steam from escaping.

Put the special tube cake mold with the bottom iron in the pot, skillfully put the screw in the middle of the iron, slowly pour the dough into the mold.

Cover the pot, continue to steam for 3-5 minutes, and the cake will be cooked.  Take the cake out, roll it into a tubular shape.  Continue to repeat the above steps until all the ingredients have been prepared.

Decorate And Enjoy

When the cake is done, arrange it on a plate, sprinkle peanuts, fresh coconut and roasted sesame on top to complete the pandan tube cake recipe.  You enjoy the cake as soon as it’s done. It is the most delicious, when eating, remember to bring a favorite drink to make the taste more complete and attractive.

Most people get so hung up on not drinking the water or skipping ice in drinks that they don’t think about all of the other ways in which water is used in food service.
