2. Travel Guide to Con Con Chim islet – Communitybased Tourism

Con has a natural area of 60 hectares located in the middle of Co Chien River, 10 km from Tra Vinh city center to the northeast along the river route and about 15 km along national highway 53. From the mainland, I want to go to Con Chim. Visitors have to go through the ferry to reach Con Chim. Just touching the land on the other side of the bank, any visitor will feel warm with the friendly welcome of the people here.

The first feeling when stepping through the village gate decorated with “homegrown” materials of Con Chim is unusually peaceful.

Con Chim does not have the abundance of fragrant flower gardens and luxuriant fruits, but is characterized by people doing tourism associated with environmental resource protection, farming, and clean production following the model of “shrimp hug the rice plant”. This land has 2 seasons, based on the salty and sweet taste of the river water. People’s livelihoods also alternate between rice and shrimp crops. Rice is an organic rice, without the use of chemical fertilizers. And shrimp is also clean shrimp, not running in the style of intensive industrial farming.

The people of Con land do tourism and agriculture by nature, say no to plastic waste, do not catch fish with a mesh smaller than 1.8cm, do not exploit natural fisheries in the breeding season; do not use electric stimulation and other forms of rake to exploit natural aquatic products on the river. And do not use pesticides, chemicals, stimulants …

Thanks to that, although Con Chim tourism is far and far away, many tourists are eager to come and want to experience many interesting activities that few places have like here. Visitors to Con Chim are not allowed to use disposable plastic products to avoid plastic waste in the environment.

3. What to Do – See – Eat at Con Chim islet – Communitybased Tourism

As a green oasis in the middle of the peaceful Co Chien river, the wind blows cool all year round, the air is extremely fresh, especially the people still retain many cultural features of the southern countryside. Here, cars, and furniture are even left on the street, no one wants to take them.

On a trip to Tra Vinh, coming to Con Chim, you can leisurely walk between small paths, two sides are rice fields, immense green. On the dike slopes, there are more small flower clusters so that visitors can walk and watch the flowers at the same time.

Setting foot on Chim islet, visitors can also hear birds chirping somewhere besides the cork tree, and listen to swallows playing in the middle of the blue sky. A world of peace and harmony.

Visitors also experience crab fishing, shrimp fishing, grinding flour, making cakes, or playing folk games… In addition, Con Chim also organizes a village market meeting, selling products such as vegetables, eggs, fish, and cakes…

Just go to Con Chim once, and you will harvest a series of extremely cool virtual live images. From the lush green melons, shady coconut trees on both sides of the road, the banks of reeds, the entrance to the house decorated with wild ten o’clock flowers or the fruit gardens…

The most impressive thing is that the farmers here serve rustic Mekong Delta dishes, such as shrimp soup with coconut milk, pancakes, steamed shrimp, boiled crab, traditional family meals…with fresh food and delicious food which grown by themselves (self-grown rice, vegetables picked from the garden, shrimp, crab, fish caught from the field, coconut cut from trees…).

Each house serves its special dishes, not overlapping. Sau Giau’s house sells pancakes, then invites guests to drink lemongrass water to warm their stomachs. Coming to Ms. Van’s old kitchen, visitors will enjoy jams from young coconuts, and a cup of cool ginseng dew; Visiting Ms. Ba Sua’s house, you will be able to eat apricot vegetable cake, thanks to the use of apricot leaves around the house, which can be grown…

In particular, if you have the opportunity to spend the night here, visitors will be even more excited to see the fireflies in the middle of the night. On small boats, sitting right in the middle of the river, visitors will see fireflies that are hard to see in the city.

Maybe the service in Con Chim village is not as professional as in other tourist areas, but a day here is interesting. What visitors receive is affection, culture, and home more than a simple experiential trip. Leaving the small land nestled by the Co Chien River, something beautiful remains in the hearts of tourists. You should try once to Con Chim to feel the heart of the countryside.

2. Travel Guide to Cau Ke ancient house or Huynh Ky Old House

Cau Ke ancient house is about 30km west of Tra Vinh city. The house of Governor Ham Huynh Ky was built by him in 1924 according to the design of French architects. Although under the influence of Western culture, with the family’s routine, with Eastern cultural traditions, when building Huynh Ky’s house, he paid great attention to choosing the location and choosing the direction. The house that qualifies for the most near-market, the second near-river, the third near-road, and the direction of opening the door to obtain the right air “Thuan Thanh”.

Like many other civil houses, Huynh Ky house includes the main house and some other works such as gate fence, back house, warehouse… The overall floor plan is distributed as follows: The main house is located vertically. In the center, the back house is horizontally behind the main house and connected to the main house by a path. The warehouse is located vertically from the outside of the gate looking in on the left side of the main house. Surrounding the house is a fence with entrance gates.

3. What to Do – See – Eat at Cau Ke ancient house or Huynh Ky Old House

The gate fence is built with reinforced cement in the style of upper and lower panels. Fence posts and gate posts are made of bricks, and barricades, gates are made of steel. The gate has two doors, one of the main doors and one of the side doors. Entering the gate is a rather large yard used to arrange flower pots.

Across the courtyard to the main house. The main house is built in a rectangular shape, length of 20m, a width of 18m, with ancient lines, with many different patterns, bricks, and decorative reliefs inside and outside the house, bearing cultural imprints. decorated in a typical decorative style of French architecture. The most eye-catching are still the ceramic tiles, they are almost colorfast with time.

The interior of the house consists of 05 compartments divided into two parts. The walls and ceiling are decorated with reliefs and patterns with many sophisticated motifs. All items such as tiles and other decorative items were brought back from France, showing that the house is representative of the sculpture and painting style that developed at that time.

However, the furniture in the old house is arranged in a pure Vietnamese style and has a clear interference between modernity and tradition.

In particular, the ceiling of the house is not made of reinforced concrete, but uses wood as a frame, then uses a zinc mesh to attach to the wooden frame and fill it with a lime mortar mixture. From the ceiling to the roof is an insulated space with ventilation holes, so the house is always cool.

In addition to its architectural value, the house is also a unique work of sculpture and painting. Statues and reliefs on the roof, on the tops of columns, arches of doors and windows; paintings on the walls, and the ceiling; The use of ceramic tiles with a variety of patterns to decorate the lobby, siding, and floors have created a unique feature for the project.

Cau Ke’s ancient house is a testament to the history of Vietnam’s architectural development, a transition period between traditional architecture and modern architecture. The house is also a testimony to a historical period of Tra Vinh in particular and the South in general in the early decades of the twentieth century. In 2011, this house was recognized by Tra Vinh province as a provincial cultural, architectural, and artistic relic.

2. Travel Guide to Ba Om Pond

Ba Om Pond, or Square Pond, is located next to National Highway 53, inward 8, Tra Vinh city (formerly Ta Cu hamlet, Nguyet Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district), about 5 km West of Tra Vinh city center.

According to the legend of the past, in the land of Tra Vinh every year during the drought season, fresh water is scarce, the fields are arid, the trees are dead, and the people in the area because of the drought fall into misery. To save the people from poverty, a prince in the area gathered his relatives to dig a pond to find a source of water.

Incidentally, in the area at that time, there was also a difficult dispute about men and women, who should marry whom, and who should bear all the costs of the wedding ceremony? On this occasion, the prince divided into two sides, a man and a woman, and held a contest to dig a pond. The side that digs deeper, bigger, and finishes first wins, the losing side will have to get married.

Ba Om Pond – A Must-See in Tra Vinh

The male side dug a round pond in the west and the female side dug a square pond in the east. The female side, led by Mrs. Om, a Khmer woman, saw that she could not stand the strength of a man, so the female side used a “plot”: They sang and danced at the same time so that the boys would quit their jobs and run to watch. At midnight, Mrs. Om cut a very long bamboo tree, hung the lantern, and put it in the East. According to the appointment, when the morning star rose, they had to stop working, when the south saw the lamp thinking it was the morning star, they invited each other to rest. Meanwhile, the female side dug until morning and finished the work first. The male side is lost in the “admiration and obedience”. In gratitude to the wise woman, people named the pond after her name, since then the pond women drug is called Ba Om pond. And the tradition of men marrying women, children must take the mother’s last name in the Khmer ethnic group also started here. It was not until later when the French ruled our country that the son took his father’s surname.

Also explaining the name of Ba Om pond, there is another story: Once upon a time, there was a very cruel prince who took over the land of Tra Vinh, forcing the people to give him beautiful girls, anyone who disobeyed would be punished. This prince forced women to bring gifts to men. One day, a beautiful girl came to the prince to protest against this unreasonable custom. Attracted by the beauty of the girl, the prince wanted to please the beauty, and at the same time wanted to abolish his custom by opening a pond digging contest. Then everything happened as described above.

Ba Om Pond – A Must-See in Tra Vinh

According to historians and folklore researchers, there are about 10 versions to explain the place name of Ba Om pond, including all genres of folk tales such as fairy tales, folk tales, legends, and stories. It can be said that this is the most hypothetical case of place names in the Mekong Delta. In terms of content, most of the stories revolve around 3 main topics: Explaining the name of Ao Ba Om, explaining why men marry women and why Khmer people have the custom to follow their mother’s last name? The stories are all products of the imagination imbued with cultural imprints of the Khmer people in the South.

Next to the pond is Ang Pagoda, one of the oldest Khmer temples in Tra Vinh built-in 990, and the Museum of Khmer Culture is also located here.

Ba Om Pond was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information in 1994. Along with the cultural museum and Ang pagoda, this set of 3 scenic complexes is one of the must-see spots when visiting Tra Vinh. If you are wondering about finding a destination for your upcoming vacation, then Tra Vinh with Ba Om Pond is an ideal destination for travelers.

3. What to Do – See – Eat at Ba Om Pond

Ba Om Pond – A Must-See in Tra Vinh

The first impression when visiting Ba Om pond is the feeling of coolness in front of the blue sky and water. The pond has a rectangular shape, 300m wide, and 500m long (because it is close to the square, so it is also called Square Pond) visitors will be surprised because the pond is so big, it should be called a lake.

Surrounded on the banks of the pond are ancient forests, most of which are hopea trees (cây sao), hundreds of years old dipterocarpus alatus ( cây dầu rái) trees, with rough roots that rise to one meter from the ground into strange shapes in four seasons, creating a dark atmosphere. peaceful, quiet time.

There are roots so large that they can form a unique cave, and children can enter and play. Another set of tree roots becomes a seat for guests to rest. The natives explained that the massive roots, entwining each other and lying high above the ground like today are due to the land around the pond sinking low, the roots exposed and growing over time. The huge size and strange shape of the tree roots in Ba Om pond make many people think of a fairy forest.

Ba Om Pond – A Must-See in Tra Vinh

If the season is right, the pond is also adorned with romantic pink lotuses and water lilies. When the afternoon sun falls on the rows of tall, dark, long trees, Ao Ba Om is the most ideal place to hang out in Tra Vinh city. On both sides of the main road leading to Ao Ba Om is a bustling and crowded culinary “flea market”. Visitors can take a walk to admire the scenery and when feeling “heartbroken”, stop at a street vendor, or a compact restaurant to enjoy famous dishes of Tra Vinh such as shaved ice, vermicelli soup, cake soup, curry vermicelli, jaggery cake… which is very cheap.

On the annual holidays and New Year of the Khmer people, Ba Om pond becomes the place of bustling community activities of the whole region, especially during the Ok Om Bok Festival held on the full moon of the 10th month of the lunar calendar, attracting thousands of visitors. People from all over come here to attend. Together they danced, watched, and sang … tightened the solidarity and harmony of ethnic brothers in the Mekong River region. And when night falls, the Ao Ba Om area shimmers, fanciful, bustling with the Wind Lantern Festival, there are many kinds of lanterns of all sizes that are released into the sky carrying prayers, wishing heaven, and earth to deliver peace, good crops, peaceful and good health.

2. Travel Guide to Ang Pagoda

Ang Pagoda – Tra Vinh Tourist Attraction

Ang Pagoda is also called Wat Angkor Raig Borei. The temple is located in the scenic Ao Ba Om cluster and the museum of Khmer ethnic culture is a highlight not to be missed on the tourist map of Tra Vinh.

According to history books, the Ang pagoda was built in the 10th century (in 990) and was built on the current scale in the 3rd year of Thieu Tri, i.e. 1842 according to the solar calendar. Since then, the temple has been restored and repaired many times, in which new auxiliary works such as monks and nuns were built.

Like many other Khmer temples in Tra Vinh, Ang Pagoda is a complex of architectural works including monks, lecture halls teaching, and Khmer characters… surrounding the majestic main hall. The temple faces the East, expressing the Buddhist thought that Shakyamuni Buddha in the West looks to the East to save sentient beings.

3. What to Do – See – Eat at Ang Pagoda

Ang Pagoda – Tra Vinh Tourist Attraction

The gate of Ang pagoda is decorated with very elaborate and sophisticated sculptures with statues of owls, fairies, and birds in the Khmer traditional motif.

From the main gate, there is a wide passage between two rows of tall, tall old hopea trees, creating a majestic position for the temple. The walkway across the wide surrounding moat makes the atmosphere fresh and cool.

The pagoda’s campus is 4 hectares wide with many endemic plant species on sandy soil such as hopea trees (cây sao), hundreds of years old dipterocarpus alatus ( cây dầu rái) trees, bamboo…

The center of the Khmer temple is the main hall (Preah Vihear) worshiping Buddha, which converges and reflects the level of contemporary artisans in architectural art, painting, sculpture… The entire main hall is supported by pillars. by a system of 18 precious wooden columns. Inside the main hall is a large space with 12 pillars decorated with dragons, painted gilded with vermilion.

Ang Pagoda – Tra Vinh Tourist Attraction

The roof of the main hall of Ang Pagoda is uniquely structured, including three levels of roofs with beautiful and harmonious colors, in which the top two roofs are very high and steep, creating a sacred feeling that Buddhists must be very humble. when looking up. The two gables are closed by two ornately carved triangular wooden panels. The roof mounds have a Naga snake god with a curved crest, symbolizing the bridge between earthly and Nirvana.

The four walls of the main hall are unique frescoes expressing Buddhist thought through the spiritual path of Shakyamuni Buddha. On the ceiling are four monumental frescoes showing the four stages of Buddha Shakyamuni’s life: Buddha’s birth, Buddha’s ordination, Buddha’s enlightenment, and Buddha’s passing into nirvana.

The Buddha altar in the main hall of Ang pagoda was also performed by artists at that time. The whole pedestal is a lotus with many petals placed behind a wooden hammock carved very delicately with many pictures of flowers, and animals, and painted gilded with gold. Like other Khmer Theravada temples, the main hall of Ang Pagoda only worships Shakyamuni Buddha in a sitting position to meditate.

Ang Pagoda – Tra Vinh Tourist Attraction

In front of the main hall is a tower containing the remains of the monks and abbots of the temple through the periods. This is the only five-top tower in the Khmer temples of Tra Vinh. The five-pointed tower is the influence of Hindu thought on the universe, nature, and people.

After nearly two centuries of stability and majesty that survives the impact of weather, rain, wind, and time, Ang Pagoda is the pride of the Khmer people in particular, of the Tra Vinh ethnic community in general. With the unique values of architecture, painting, and sculpture imbued with Khmer cultural identity, there are certain exchanges with Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, and Thai cultures.

In the spiritual life of the Khmer, the temple is not only a place of religious practice and Buddhist rituals but also a place to preserve and transmit traditional cultural values from generation to generation. With that great material and spiritual values, Ang Pagoda was ranked a national historical-cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information, now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Every year, on the Chol-cham-thmay, Delta festival, especially the Moon Offering – Ok-om-bok festival, the Khmer and Kinh, and Hoa people in Tra Vinh and neighboring provinces gather here to admire the festival, worship and participate in fun activities.

Vinh Long Foods & Restaurants You Must Eat in Vinh Long

In Vietnamese culture, eating and drinking is an art, it not only meets the basic requirements of people but also has a close relationship with the lifestyle and national traditions, which is very clearly shown through the tools used in the meal, how to behave with people while eating. Therefore, eating and drinking also proves the history and formation of the culture of Vietnam. The dishes through each stage speak to the life and people of that period and of the land – where each dish was born.

Food, in other words, eating is an indispensable activity in every travel trip. Traveling offers the perfect opportunity to try new and exciting foods from different parts of the world. You can enjoy for yourself the unique flavors that you have never tasted in your life. Vinh Long foods & drinks are the link connecting the characteristics of the cuisine of the river with the tourists who have visited. Not only famous for its fruit-laden orchards, but this land also has countless delicious dishes that delight people to enjoy.

1. Durian Ri6

Ri 6 Vinh Long durian is a specialty fruit of the Southwest region, known as the king of tropical fruit kings.Durian Ri6 has an oblong fruit shape, yellow skin color when ripe, slightly blunt, and sparse spines. The durian Ri 6 variety is assessed as having good quality; The rice is yellow to dark yellow, and the meat is dry, fragrant, and fatty, even when you have not peeled it, making many people feel uncomfortable. However, some others think that durian has a sweet, aromatic taste. Durian originated from abroad and then imported to Vietnam, first planted in the land of Long Ho, Vinh Long province. This is a fruit that often lives and grows in hot, humid, and tropical monsoon climates. Just like the fairy tale about the durian fruit, its sweet aroma and taste are only for those who know how to enjoy it, but for those who can’t eat it, just smelling it is scary. The name Ri6 originates from the name of the person who discovered this durian variety, that is Mr. Sau Ri in Vinh Long in 1990. When you peel off the peel of this fruit, you will see a very attractive, dry yellow pulp. dry, not sticky, flat seeds, moderately sweet and fatty with a very seductive aroma, making everyone “ecstatic”.

2. Snake Wine

Snake wine is a therapeutic alcoholic beverage made by soaking a snake carcass in a high concentration of rice wine. Typically, a deadly snake is chosen to be soaked. Snake wine has been present since the Western Zhou Dynasty, and according to eastern medicine, it is used to treat ailments and improve yang. China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and other Southeast Asian countries have it.

When soaking, the solid bile must not be lost and the fishy smell must be minimized. People inject bile first. Snakes are dissected, all viscera are removed, and snake bile is taken separately and soaked in a bottle containing alcohol with a concentration of 35-40%. Use alcohol to wash snake blood, then soak the snake in a mixture of fresh ginger and alcohol to remove the fishy smell (500g fresh ginger, wash, pound, add 0.5 liters of 35-40% alcohol), soak for 30 minutes. Take out the snake, let it dry, then you can proceed to soak.

Fresh soaking time must be at least 100 days. Dry soaking: Snake cut into pieces, grilled until golden brown, and soaked for about 30 days can be used, however, the effect is less than that of fresh pickling. According to traditional experience, snake wine is usually lowered to the ground by burying the wine jar in the ground, filling it for 3 months and 10 days, and bringing it up to use. The wine will have a special aroma and the nutritional effect will be greatly increased. That’s because environmental influences (temperature, humidity) in the ground increase the esterification reaction between alcohols and amino acids. The ester product creates the aroma of the alcohol, and more amino acids participate in the reaction, promoting the breakdown (hydrolysis) of proteins, and increasing the nutritious composition of the wine. Snake wine is often soaked in combination with a number of other tonics such as shiitake, ginseng, ha the o, dong Quai, cross frame, bean Trong, rabbit ty, goji berry, and royal flag. The medicinal herbs must be soaked separately and then mixed with solid alcohol to drink the extract. Snake wine works well in cases of kidney failure, bone and joint pain, inflammation, peripheral nerve pain, physiological function decline, impotence, spermatogenesis, algal secretion, and mental decline. People with damaged blood and leprosy should not use it. (Reference Information)

3. Hu Tieu My Tho (rice noodle soup)

Hu tieu My Tho is not only a typical dish of Tien Giang cuisine but also a specialty of the South.  Anyone who has ever eaten, even once, this dish will forever be attached to its familiar and close taste, reminiscent of the homeland and rivers with childhood memories, especially for those who have had a good time.  with My Tho land in particular and the people of the South in general.

The three regions of the country are famous for their different specialties.  If the North has Pho, Hue beef noodle soup is famous in the Central region, then hu tieu My Tho is the best representative of Southern cuisine among countless other delicacies of the river region.

Especially in the land that gave birth to this dish – in My Tho, noodle soup has become a favorite dish at home.  Not only are locals but also tourists from far away coming to Tien Giang, after visiting famous attractions such as Vinh Trang pagoda, Thoi Son dune, Dong Tam snake farm, etc.  choose Hu Tieu My Tho  to enjoy.

Hu Tieu is a dish originating from Cambodia.  When coming to Vietnam, after a long time and many events, this dish has been modified to suit Vietnamese cuisine and gradually becomes a popular dish.  The Khmer noodle dish has been re-processed and combined with new ingredients to create a very unique flavor that is both suitable for Vietnamese taste and typical of the cuisine of the Southwest region.  And the place associated with this dish is My Tho city in Tien Giang province, so the famous My Tho noodle dish.

Compared to Hu Tieu Nam Vang, Hu Tieu My Tho were different in the past in terms of ingredients for making noodles and spices.  However, many people believe that these two dishes are basically the same, because they share the same origin as Khmer food.

The first and most recognizable feature of My Tho noodle soup is the noodles used to cook this dish.  This ingredient will be small, dry, chewy and have a slightly sour aftertaste.  This is the feature that makes this Southern noodle dish cannot be confused with noodle soup anywhere else.

Because the noodle soup in Cho Lon usually has a large and soft version, even a bit mushy, while the Hu Tiu in My Tho and this drunk Nam Vang noodle soup has a smaller, tougher stem.  Many people tell each other that the best noodle soup must be made of Go Cat rice, a specialty rice variety harvested in My Phong commune, outside My Tho.  Because this type of dry noodle soup when cooked, the water will be slightly boiled, adding fried onion fat will make the cake stalks shiny and eye-catching, stimulating the taste buds of diners.

The famous noodles make up the dish of the My Tho people, but showing the good quality of this dish is a family secret that belongs to the person who cooks the broth.  This important ingredient is simmered from bone marrow meat and then added dried squid, shrimp lice and fat.  But that is not enough, but it also takes a few other “esoteric” spices to create a pot of fragrant noodle soup with a characteristic sweet taste that captivates people.

It can be said that choosing rice grains to make noodles and connecting the broth with a unique recipe is what makes the unique flavor of the famous noodle dish of My Tho.

However, the dish cannot be complete without the accompanying ingredients that today’s young people also call topping such as thinly sliced pork, pork bones or ham depending on the taste of the eater, pork noodle soup, dried shrimp with lice,  Fatty shrimp, pork liver, parsley, scallions, cabbage,… Depending on the style of My Tho noodle shop, these ingredients can be changed and added.  Some Chinese-style restaurants like to sell bread or wonton served with noodles, others prefer to use thinly sliced char siu pork rather than normal boiled meat.

Not only has a variety of side dishes, but the presentation of this Southern noodle dish is also eye-catching with many colors, hiding the harmony of many flavors.

A proper bowl of My Tho noodle soup will only be scooped up about 1/3 of a large chunk of minced lean meat that has been marinated very well in the mouth into a bowl that already has soft noodles.  Then, the seller added a patch of boiling broth that was cooked from pork bones, dried squid, and dried shrimp into a bowl.  Right after that, the bowl of noodles will be covered with boiled pork or thinly sliced char siu, pork shank, pork bones, pork chop, dried shrimp with lice, fat shrimp, pork liver, quail eggs, fried onions and chopped vegetables.  as small as parsley, scallions, cabbage.  But that still does not complete the dish but also needs a final step on the part of the diners.  It is seasoning and adding spices and chili vegetables on the table.

Indeed, just entering any noodle shop in My Tho, diners will also see a lot of jars such as fish sauce, soy sauce, chili sauce, black sauce, lemon plate, part of raw price, cup of dangerous chili.  Served with sliced green, yellow, and red buffalo horn peppers and a whole jar of garlic.  Particularly, the part of vegetables served with the noodle dish usually has cabbage, coriander and cinnamon.

This is a very important step that determines the quality of the dish. First, when you buy it, you have to make the snail clean.  And be careful not to break the shell, the snail will die.  Soak snails in a bowl of rice water for about an hour.  In order for the snail to release all the dirt and grease, the snail shell is also clean. Or you can also soak the snails with vinegar and sliced chili.  This way also makes the snail clean and less fishy, and the snail meat is also more chewy. After soaking, continue to take out the snails and wash them again and again.  Gently rub the whole shell to make sure it is clean, then take it out and let it dry.

Step 2: Boil the snails

Put the snails on the stove in a large pot filled with water, put snails in to boil.  Take crushed lemongrass and a few fresh lemon leaves in a pot to boil together to remove the fishy smell and make the snail meat more fragrant. Put on high heat and bring to a boil for 2-3 then turn off the heat.  That’s when the snail has been peeled off, you can take the snail out and let it cool. Note that you do not boil the snails too carefully, it will lose the sweet and chewy taste of the snail meat.

Step 3: Mix the snail marinade

Take a bow and put in it 2 tablespoons of minced garlic and chili, 2 tablespoons of fish sauce, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sugar, a little monosodium glutamate and ground pepper.  Stir the mixture evenly.  Depending on your taste, you can taste the mixture and then add spices with pepper and sugar. Another step is to take green pepper from the jar, wash it and cut it into pieces to fit the snail’s mouth.

Step 4: Marinate the snails

Arrange the snails neatly on a plate or tray for easy marinating.  Use a small spoon to pour the mixture into the snail meat.  Put it in the mouth where it has been peeled off one by one. In the way to make grilled snail with pepper, add a little green pepper to the mouth and then turn the snail’s mouth up so that the seasoning does not leak out

Step 5: Let’s get on the stove to bake snails

Put snails in the oven, if you want to be more delicious, you can invest in a grill with a charcoal stove.  Place a fan next to the stove and keep the embers on at all times so you can heat up the snails at any time. Just bake for 15-20 minutes, because the snails are already cooked when boiled. Arrange the snails on a plate with laksa leaves and a cup of chili ginger fish sauce.  You can also use sweet and sour sauce or salt and pepper lemon, dipping with grilled snails and pepper is also very rich. 9. Pro Tips

Here are our tips for easing your mind (and stomach) around food-handling environments that you may not be used to.

Make sure the food is freshly cooked. If you’re eating hot street food, it’s always safest (not to mention more delicious) to eat food you can see being cooked to order.

Look for lines and busy stalls. Busy street food stalls are an indicator of popularity, and their high turnover rate means the food is never sitting out for hours and developing dreaded bacteria. Yes, long lines can be discouraging when you’re hungry after a full day of exploring, but it’s not worth the risk of grabbing precooked food from the empty spot next door.

Eat when the locals are eating. The last and most important element here is when to eat. You’re likely already on a weird eating schedule while you’re traveling, but it’s important to try and adjust to the eating times of where you are. A bowl of pho might be lunch for Americans, but it’s breakfast for the Vietnamese. This ensures that you’re eating freshly cooked food and that you can find the best and most popular places to eat.

If you can’t drink the water, then you can’t eat the salad. Most people get so hung up on not drinking the water or skipping ice in drinks that they don’t think about all of the other ways in which water is used in food service. Fruits and vegetables tend to be washed with tap water in most places, rather than the filtered water that locals drink—or sometimes it’s not washed at all. If you’re really craving some produce, try fruits you can peel or cooked veggies.

Trust your gut. If you’re unsure about the food or the way that it’s being prepared, then keep moving. Eating street food all over the world doesn’t make you an expert. Every stall and every country are different, and sometimes the rules can be harder to follow. When something doesn’t look, smell, or feel right, don’t eat it! Trust your judgment. Chances are that there’s another spot close by that’s making something more delicious.

Best time to visit Cai Be floating market is from 5:30am-6:30am. I hope you have an amazing sunrise on the Mekong Delta river.

You can stay in a homestay which is near the floating market, this will help you out the best option. Then you can hire a scooter, car or bike and explore it by yourself, but you still need to hire a boat for the Cai Be floating market.

5. Google Maps of  An Binh Islet

Google Maps made a name for itself helping people travel from one place to another, avoid traffic (You probably know the route from your hotel to the gas station by heart, but what you can’t be sure about is gridlock), measure a distance, get back to the hotel on time, share the location…

6. Visit An Binh Islet by yourself

An Binh Islet – What to See in Vinh Long

Solo traveller? Travelling on your own means you will get out of any difficult situations by yourself. This, in turn, leads to more satisfying travel experiences and helps you improve your problem-solving skills. These days we rarely get the chance to sit with ourselves and simply be. That’s why you should consider the time you spend alone on your trip as a gift.

It is possible for solo travellers to use google maps and do it alone. But sometimes they need to update local maintained roads and bridges which close and lead you a longer road than the road from google maps. It is just about the time. It takes more time to find the correct garden to come. Adventure is always fun. Wifi is strong in Vinh Long village! The locals find it hard to speak English as well. Top tip: Sticking to one canal and keeping going along it which gives you more things to see and avoids getting lost. Contact vemekong.com to hire a car, boat, scooter with English-speaking-guide or cycling tours in Vinh Long.

7. Responsible Travel and Advice to Visit An Binh Islet

Don’t get us wrong. But we assure you that you totally agree with us. “Do not give candy and things to the children when you plan to visit any local villages”, the kids will leave the school and follow the sweets and later they find some things to give you or sell to you. The garden is a little forest, don’t pick and touch the flowers or fruits without the local’s smiles. We deal with traveling green and leaving green behind, not plastic. Top tip: Vemekong.com are some of the companies that care a lot about responsible travel and local respectation.
