2. Travel Guide to Hung Vuong Square
Started construction in 2013 and officially put into operation in 2014. Up to now, Hung Vuong Square has become the pride of Bac Lieu people. The unique architectural and artistic complex in the square has helped this land rich in historical and cultural traditions score points on the Mekong Delta tourist maps.
Hung Vuong Square has a total usable area of over 85,000m2, of which the square yard is over 40,000m2. The entire yard is paved with natural stone in light gray alternating with dark gray, which looks like lively musical notes.
The square area includes many architectural works arranged into a harmonious, highly aesthetic and unique complex, creating a highlight for the urban space of Bac Lieu city.
The most prominent is Cao Van Lau theater often called “Three conical hat theater”. The Cultural and Art Exhibition Center and Cao Van Lau Theater in Bac Lieu attract many visitors to check-in because of its unique architecture.
The height of the largest hat is more than 24 m, the diameter of the largest cone is more than 45 m. The image of 3 conical hats in the design of the Culture – Art Exhibition Center and Cao Van Lau Theater shows many meanings.
That image is reminiscent of the 3 North, Central, and South regions of the country, the 3 ethnic groups Kinh, Khmer and Chinese in Bac Lieu, the 3-legged stance represents the solidarity “3 trees bunched together to make a high mountain”, father, mother and child in a family.
An important highlight for Hung Vuong Square in Bac Lieu also has a stylized zither symbol, supported on 5 large lotus petals. This symbol represents the unique culture of Bac Lieu in the flow of thousands of years of national civilization. The blooming lotus symbolizes the continuous development of Don ca tai tu art in particular and the culture of Bac Lieu in general.
This lute was recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as the largest lute in Vietnam with a total height of 18.6m, built on 5 lotus petals in a 5-pointed star-shaped lake.
In addition, three 9-meter-high statues, symbolizing the solidarity, attachment and solidarity of the Kinh, Khmer, and Chinese three ethnic groups, are also a highlight of the square. On these 3 blocks are engraved groups of numbers marking important historical milestones of the Party Committee and people of Bac Lieu province in the process of building and developing the homeland.
3. What to Do –See – Eat at Hung Vuong Square
In the complex of architectural works of Hung Vuong Square, there is also a memorial to heroes and martyrs, a monument to the event of the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of the Year of the Monkey (1968).
These are works of great historical value, depicting the heroic historical moments of the Party and army of Bac Lieu in the struggle for national liberation, and at the same time expressing gratitude to the heroic martyrs, contributing to educating the tradition of revolutionary struggle, the historical-cultural tradition for present and future generations.
Placed in a solemn position and in the center of the Square is a flagpole more than 20m high, with a red flag with a yellow star – the sacred national flag of the Fatherland. At this place, every first Monday morning of each month, a flag-raising ceremony takes place with the participation of people from all walks of life, civil servants, youth union members….
Below the flagpole is also an art fountain with a spray floor consisting of 03 segments, 68 nozzles from 1.5 to 3m high. The number of faucets corresponds to the number “Loc Phat” wishing for prosperity and continuous development for this land and for tourists coming to Bac Lieu. The nozzles with water jets of different heights according to 09 water spraying programs create a “dynamic” element for the Square and create lively “water dances” showing the dynamic and modern life rhythm of a young coastal city.
The system of trees around the Square is arranged, decorated, trimmed and shaped regularly, continuously ensuring harmony and beauty, creating a fresh environment, contributing to the beauty of The Hung Square area.
