When people ask me what to see in Mekong today. I tell them view our MekongDelta365.
Nowadays, there are more and more green and responsible tours which are meaningful and educational as well. This is why Can Tho noodle factory is getting popular for both Vietnamese and foreigners to come and explore the cuisine culture and the typical local life in Can Tho, Mekong Delta.
I thought I was signing up to see a floating market — I didn’t expect to experience one of the most diverse, authentic, and immersive tours of my entire Vietnam trip. From 5 AM to sunset, everything was led perfectly by our guide Chris, who was knowledgeable, easygoing, and passionate about the Mekong.
We began at Cai Rang floating market, just as the sun was rising. Chris explained its history, its decline, and why it’s so important to experience it now. We had noodle soup and fresh pineapple right on the river — it was like breakfast on a movie set, but real.
We then visited a small family-run rice noodle “factory.” Chris made it clear this wasn’t rice paper — and watching the process made us appreciate every bite of the noodle pizza we had after. We strolled through a tropical fruit garden, then enjoyed a peaceful sampan ride in hidden canals with no one else around.
The optional bike ride was an absolute must. Chris guided us through small villages, where people smiled and waved. It didn’t feel like a tour — it felt like visiting friends. The cacao farm was another highlight: old-school charm, delicious cacao milk, and an honest connection to local life.
In the afternoon, Chris brought us to a wetland forest reserve about an hour outside Can Tho. It was quiet, green, and full of birds. From the boat to the observation tower to the short trek through the forest, it felt like we were discovering something truly secret.
We ended the day at a massive ficus microcarpa tree used by the Viet Cong. Chris gave us historical context that made the site come alive — it was a powerful way to wrap up such a full and meaningful day.
I booked this tour hoping to see the floating market — I got so much more than that. This was not just a day trip, it was a deep dive into the soul of the Mekong Delta. With our guide Thomas, the experience was smooth, thoughtful, and full of insightful local stories.
Our day began before sunrise, as Thomas picked us up from the hotel and led us to the sampan for the Cai Rang floating market. Watching life unfold on the water while eating warm noodle soup was unforgettable. Thomas shared fascinating facts about the market’s fading presence and made us truly appreciate the moment.
From there, we explored a traditional rice noodle house run by a local family. Seeing how they make noodles (not rice paper!) was eye-opening, and the rice noodle pizza was a nice surprise. We then walked through a tropical fruit garden, tasting fruits right from the trees, and took a peaceful sampan ride through hidden canals without any other tourists in sight.
Later, we enjoyed a relaxing bike ride through the countryside, stopping to meet locals and enjoy a drink along the way. The cacao farm was another highlight — we learned about “Mr. Cacao” and tasted cacao milk in a serene setting.
In the afternoon, Thomas took us to a wetland conservation area outside of Can Tho — a place that felt completely untouched. We explored by boat, spotted birds, climbed the observation tower, and ended with a light trek through nature. Our final stop was a giant ficus microcarpa tree rich with wartime history, where Thomas shared its incredible backstory.
This tour was more than a checklist — it was a carefully crafted experience full of authenticity, nature, and culture. Thomas brought it all to life beautifully.
