This was not your typical tourist day—no big crowds, no rushed stops—just a genuine dive into the heart of Vinh Long. I had the pleasure of doing this trip with Tai as our guide, and I can’t speak highly enough of him. Quietly passionate and incredibly knowledgeable, he brought history to life without overloading us.
Our journey began at the ceramic kilns, where we saw how traditional pottery is still crafted and exported worldwide. Tai explained every step patiently, and it was amazing to learn how something so humble—clay—can hold such deep cultural and economic meaning.
Then came the brick kiln canal, which honestly blew me away. You don’t expect a place of industry to be so beautiful, but it was. The Thay Cai canal, lined with brick chimneys reaching to the sky, felt almost sacred. Tai spoke about how these kilns survived wars and time—his respect for the local heritage was clear.
We had the option to walk through the village, and I highly recommend it. Seeing the brick-making process up close, meeting workers, and hearing their stories (translated by Tai) was the most human part of the day.
Lunch on the boat was peaceful and delicious, floating downriver past palm trees and rice fields. Later, the sampan ride through a shaded canal gave us that picture-perfect Mekong moment I had been hoping for. Then we ended with a visit to a local workshop—the coconut candy and rice wine were fun to try, and the pop rice was fascinating to watch.
We returned to the hotel early afternoon, feeling refreshed and filled with stories. This tour showed me a side of Vietnam few people get to see. Thanks, Tai—your care made all the difference.
This day trip from Vinh Long gave me a deeper appreciation for Vietnamese heritage than I could have imagined. I’m drawn to the quieter, lesser-known places—and this was exactly that. Our guide, Hieu, met us at the hotel with a calm and welcoming energy. From there, the experience just kept unfolding in layers.
We started at the pottery kilns, where Hieu explained how these handcrafted ceramics are still made for global markets. But what stood out most was how much tradition is still alive here. When we arrived at the Brick Kiln Kingdom, it truly felt like a journey back in time. Towering old kilns, warm bricks, smoke curling into the sky—it was industrial, yet poetic.
Hieu invited us to trek through the village, and I’m so glad I did. We met locals, peeked into old workshops, and even sat with a woman who still shapes clay by hand. It was humbling to witness such dedication and skill passed down through generations.
Afterward, we had lunch on the boat, drifting along the Mekong. The food was fresh and comforting, and the breeze was perfect. The slow cruise toward An Binh islet gave us time to soak in the river life—kids waving from the shore, boats passing by with entire families aboard.
The sampan ride through a canal was quiet and serene, a scene straight from a painting. Later, we stopped at a local workshop for coconut candy and pop rice tasting. I even brought some home!
By 2:30 PM, we were back where we started—but I felt like I’d seen a piece of the real Mekong. Thank you, Hieu, for giving us more than just a tour—you gave us a connection.
