From the moment Minh greeted us at My Tho boat station, we knew this tour would be special. The stop at Vinh Trang pagoda was peaceful and awe-inspiring, with so much history and beauty in one place. Cruising the Mekong with views of floating houses and lush islands was breathtaking. Minh’s explanation of the coconut candy production in the hidden Tan Thach village was fascinating, and the kids especially loved tasting the treats. The horse cart ride through the countryside felt like stepping back in time, and the live traditional Vietnamese music was a soulful highlight. The slow hand-rowing sampan ride under the coconut trees was so peaceful and beautiful. Lunch with fresh elephant ear fish was delicious. Minh’s warmth and knowledge made the whole day unforgettable.
Our day started comfortably with the driver picking us up in Ho Chi Minh City and making a lovely stop at the historic Vinh Trang Pagoda. The peaceful atmosphere and beautiful architecture gave us a great introduction to the region.
At My Tho boat station, our friendly guide Chris welcomed us aboard the motorboat for a scenic cruise along the mighty Mekong River. We enjoyed spotting floating fish farms and the famous four islands: Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix, and Turtle.
Visiting the hidden Tan Thach village was a highlight — far less touristy and very authentic. Chris’s detailed explanation of the coconut candy-making process was fascinating and kid-friendly, and sampling local treats made the experience even sweeter.
The horse cart ride through the Mekong countryside was charming, followed by a memorable Vietnamese traditional music performance. Savoring tropical fruits and honey tea while listening to the UNESCO-recognized Đàn Ca Tài Tử was truly special.
The hand-rowing sampan ride in the narrow coconut-lined canals offered an intimate glimpse of daily river life. The authentic lunch with elephant ear fish was delicious and a perfect way to end the journey.
Chris’s warm guidance made this cultural and scenic tour a wonderful day. Highly recommended!
