We had just landed in HCMC the night before, so this tour was the perfect way to ease into Vietnam. Thomas and our driver picked us up at 8 sharp, cheerful and well-organized. The drive to My Tho was smooth, and we appreciated the stop at Vinh Trang Pagoda — it was peaceful and unexpectedly grand.
The Mekong cruise was one of those moments where you just exhale. Thomas pointed out the four mythical islands and shared some great local legends with a twinkle in his eye. What really made the tour stand out, though, was Tan Thach village.
It felt genuine — not overcrowded, and everyone was warm and welcoming. We learned how coconut candy is made (and got to try lots of it), and then hopped on a horse cart through the village. The music stop was lovely too — simple, but full of heart.
Gliding down the canal on the rowing boat, shaded by coconut trees, was honestly magical. Lunch was abundant and delicious — that elephant ear fish was a highlight. We arrived in Can Tho full, happy, and grateful for such a well-curated day.
Our day started bright and early with a warm welcome from our driver and guide at our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The stop at the beautiful Vinh Trang Pagoda was a wonderful introduction to the region’s rich history and architecture.
Boarding the motorboat in My Tho, we cruised along the mighty Mekong River, enjoying sights of floating fish farms and the famous four islands — each with its own charm. The scenery was peaceful and captivating.
The highlight for me was visiting the hidden Tan Thach village, much quieter and more authentic than the usual tourist spots. Our guide shared fascinating insights about the local coconut candy production — a fun and educational experience for our family, especially the kids who loved tasting the treats.
Exploring the countryside by horse cart was a delightful journey into traditional rural life. The live performance of Đàn Ca Tài Tử music was enchanting and the fresh tropical fruits with honey tea were delicious.
The hand-rowing sampan ride through narrow coconut canals was an intimate experience, offering a close-up view of daily life along the waterways. The authentic lunch with elephant ear fish was a perfect ending to the trip.
Our guide’s knowledge and friendliness made this tour truly memorable. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a well-rounded Mekong Delta experience with culture, nature, and local flavors.
