Unexpectedly Beautiful Moments All Along the Way

This Mekong Delta tour was full of small, beautiful surprises that I will carry with me for a long time. And it wouldn’t have been the same without our guide, Hieu, who had such a calm and thoughtful way of showing us his culture—it made the entire day feel very personal.

The stop at Vinh Trang Pagoda was our first real taste of the region’s spiritual side, and Hieu explained everything in such a gentle, respectful way. From there, the boat ride gave us our first real look at river life, passing floating houses and the unique islands with mythological names—I loved that Hieu took time to explain their stories.

In Tan Thach village, watching the coconut candy being made was fascinating, and Hieu didn’t just explain the process—he also shared little stories about village life, childhood memories, and how locals live with and from the river.

Riding the horse cart felt like stepping into a storybook version of Vietnam’s past, and the traditional music performance was so raw and honest—it brought tears to my eyes. The sampan ride was peaceful in a way I didn’t expect. It felt like floating through another world entirely.

Lunch was delicious, especially the elephant ear fish, which was beautifully prepared and shared like a family meal. I left that day feeling more connected to Vietnam than I had on any other part of my trip.

Thank you, Hieu, for the quiet beauty you brought to every moment.

The Mekong Delta Stole My Heart

I didn’t expect to feel so deeply connected to a region in just one day, but that’s exactly what happened on this incredible journey through the Mekong Delta. From the moment we were picked up at our hotel, everything was smooth—but the moment we met our guide, Minh, I knew this wasn’t going to be just another sightseeing trip.

Minh was warm, witty, and full of insight. He shared stories, not just facts, and really helped us see the heart and soul of southern Vietnam. Vinh Trang Pagoda was a peaceful and spiritual place, and Minh explained the symbolism and architecture in a way that made it so meaningful. Then came the boat ride—gliding along the Mekong, watching daily life happen on and along the water, was hypnotic.

The coconut candy workshop in Tan Thach was unexpectedly fascinating. I never imagined coconut could be used in so many ways! Minh even let us try our hand at wrapping the candy, which was such a fun, personal touch.

But the real highlight for me was the hand-rowed sampan ride through the narrow canal. The quiet, the palm trees above, the occasional glimpse of someone’s home tucked behind the foliage… it felt like time slowed down. Add to that the horse cart, traditional music, and that unforgettable elephant ear fish lunch, and I couldn’t have asked for more.

Minh made us feel like travelers, not tourists. This wasn’t just a tour—it was a memory I’ll keep forever.
