Our day started bright and early with a warm welcome from our driver and guide at our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The stop at the beautiful Vinh Trang Pagoda was a wonderful introduction to the region’s rich history and architecture.
Boarding the motorboat in My Tho, we cruised along the mighty Mekong River, enjoying sights of floating fish farms and the famous four islands — each with its own charm. The scenery was peaceful and captivating.
The highlight for me was visiting the hidden Tan Thach village, much quieter and more authentic than the usual tourist spots. Our guide shared fascinating insights about the local coconut candy production — a fun and educational experience for our family, especially the kids who loved tasting the treats.
Exploring the countryside by horse cart was a delightful journey into traditional rural life. The live performance of Đàn Ca Tài Tử music was enchanting and the fresh tropical fruits with honey tea were delicious.
The hand-rowing sampan ride through narrow coconut canals was an intimate experience, offering a close-up view of daily life along the waterways. The authentic lunch with elephant ear fish was a perfect ending to the trip.
Our guide’s knowledge and friendliness made this tour truly memorable. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a well-rounded Mekong Delta experience with culture, nature, and local flavors.
This Mekong Delta tour was full of small, beautiful surprises that I will carry with me for a long time. And it wouldn’t have been the same without our guide, Hieu, who had such a calm and thoughtful way of showing us his culture—it made the entire day feel very personal.
The stop at Vinh Trang Pagoda was our first real taste of the region’s spiritual side, and Hieu explained everything in such a gentle, respectful way. From there, the boat ride gave us our first real look at river life, passing floating houses and the unique islands with mythological names—I loved that Hieu took time to explain their stories.
In Tan Thach village, watching the coconut candy being made was fascinating, and Hieu didn’t just explain the process—he also shared little stories about village life, childhood memories, and how locals live with and from the river.
Riding the horse cart felt like stepping into a storybook version of Vietnam’s past, and the traditional music performance was so raw and honest—it brought tears to my eyes. The sampan ride was peaceful in a way I didn’t expect. It felt like floating through another world entirely.
Lunch was delicious, especially the elephant ear fish, which was beautifully prepared and shared like a family meal. I left that day feeling more connected to Vietnam than I had on any other part of my trip.
Thank you, Hieu, for the quiet beauty you brought to every moment.
