Itinerary
  • Pick-up
    08:00 AM, the car driver (no tour guide) will pick you up from your hotel in Can Tho City and transfer to My Tho boat station (about 11:00 AM) where your tour guide will greet and welcome you for embarking the boat.
  • Vinh Trang pagoda
    The reststop on the way at the pagoda, the car driver will stop at Vinh Trang pagoda in My Tho which was built in 1849. It is the greatest pagoda of Tien Giang Province and was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1984.
  • Cruising on the mighty Mekong River
    Arrive My Tho boat station (where you meet the tour guide), boarding the motorboat at a pier and cruising on the mighty Mekong River. Here, overlooking floating houses where fishes are farmed beneath the house around 4 islands of the Dragon island, Thoi Son island (Unicorn island), Phoenix island, Turtle islet (viewing from the motorboat).
  • Coco candy producing process
    Continuing the journey on the river until reaching the local hidden Tan Thach village (which is less touristy than Thoi Son island tourism a lot), you will get to know many things about coconut uses (coconut candy, wine, oil, mat, coco shell), the tour guide will explain about coco candy producing process at the local coconut workshop as well – very kid-friendly. Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of local people.
  • Horse cart
    Take a short walk to explore the village. Enjoy more Mekong countryside with the horse cart as a Landlord in the old days. Arrive another village - a performance site where Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) can be heard and seasonal tropical fruits and honey tea can be tasted (included).
  • Hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal
    Afterward, being on a hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal and slowly cruising through a small creek with beautiful overhanging coconut trees. Lives from both sides of the creek can be observed.
  • Lunch with an elephant ear fish
    Around noon, have an authentic set menu lunch with an elephant ear fish.
  • End the tour
    Disembark at My Tho boat station where the car driver (no tour guide) waits for you there and picks you up and transfers straight to Can Tho city. Arrive Can Tho around 4-5pm.

    Like a gentle journey through time

    This day trip from Can Tho gave us a lovely chance to slow down. My wife and I loved the blend of cultural and natural experiences. Our driver was courteous and the pagoda stop set a tranquil tone for the day.

    Meeting Thomas at the boat station was like meeting an old friend. He was knowledgeable and funny, and he made sure we always felt comfortable. The coconut workshop was fascinating—who knew one fruit could be used in so many ways?

    I especially loved the hand-rowed sampan; it was the first time I heard complete silence in Vietnam—just birds and water. Lunch was hearty and very fresh.

    Thank you, Thomas, for the perfect pace and thoughtful guiding. This day reminded me to slow down and just observe.

    Tradition, nature and flavors – all in one day

    I had just one free day in Can Tho before flying home, and this tour let me see another side of the Mekong I hadn’t experienced before. The early pick-up by car was smooth, and the Vinh Trang pagoda was a peaceful, photo-worthy stop.

    Hannah was waiting at the boat station and immediately made us feel welcome. Her explanations were clear and passionate. I appreciated how she highlighted local life in Tan Thach rather than taking us to the more touristic areas.

    The boat rides were relaxing, the coconut and honey treats delicious, and the live folk music surprisingly moving. But my favorite moment was the quiet sampan ride—just the sound of water and rustling leaves.

    Lunch was generous, and everything halal-friendly too! We returned to Can Tho with a camera full of memories and a heart full of gratitude.
