Pick-up08:00 AM, the car driver (no tour guide) will pick you up from your hotel in Can Tho City and transfer to My Tho boat station (about 11:00 AM) where your tour guide will greet and welcome you for embarking the boat.

Vinh Trang pagodaThe reststop on the way at the pagoda, the car driver will stop at Vinh Trang pagoda in My Tho which was built in 1849. It is the greatest pagoda of Tien Giang Province and was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1984.

Cruising on the mighty Mekong RiverArrive My Tho boat station (where you meet the tour guide), boarding the motorboat at a pier and cruising on the mighty Mekong River. Here, overlooking floating houses where fishes are farmed beneath the house around 4 islands of the Dragon island, Thoi Son island (Unicorn island), Phoenix island, Turtle islet (viewing from the motorboat).

Coco candy producing processContinuing the journey on the river until reaching the local hidden Tan Thach village (which is less touristy than Thoi Son island tourism a lot), you will get to know many things about coconut uses (coconut candy, wine, oil, mat, coco shell), the tour guide will explain about coco candy producing process at the local coconut workshop as well – very kid-friendly. Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of local people.

Horse cartTake a short walk to explore the village. Enjoy more Mekong countryside with the horse cart as a Landlord in the old days. Arrive another village - a performance site where Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) can be heard and seasonal tropical fruits and honey tea can be tasted (included).

Hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canalAfterward, being on a hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal and slowly cruising through a small creek with beautiful overhanging coconut trees. Lives from both sides of the creek can be observed.

End the tourDisembark at My Tho boat station where the car driver (no tour guide) waits for you there and picks you up and transfers straight to Can Tho city. Arrive Can Tho around 4-5pm.

Wir wollten das Mekong-Delta erleben, aber ohne zu viel Trubel – dieser Tagesausflug von Can Tho nach My Tho war genau richtig. Unser Fahrer war pünktlich und höflich, und die kurze Pause an der Vinh Trang Pagode war ein schöner Auftakt.
Minh hat uns am Bootsanleger freundlich empfangen. Seine Deutschkenntnisse sind nicht perfekt, aber sein Englisch war gut verständlich und er hat alles mit viel Herz erklärt. Besonders schön fanden wir das Dorf Tan Thach – so ruhig und authentisch!
Die Bootsfahrt durch die schmalen Kanäle war wie aus einem Bilderbuch. Dazu traditionelle Musik, frisches Obst und ein leckeres Mittagessen mit knusprigem Elefantenohrfisch. Am späten Nachmittag waren wir wieder zurück in Can Tho, voll schöner Eindrücke. Danke Minh!
I booked this tour on a whim while staying in Can Tho, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my Vietnam trip. The driver picked me up right on time and we made a lovely stop at the Vinh Trang Pagoda—a peaceful place with beautiful architecture. Then I met David, my guide for the day, who was extremely friendly and very easy to chat with.
The Mekong River felt alive but not overly commercial here. We cruised past floating fish farms, then explored Tan Thach village which was far more relaxed than the usual Unicorn Island crowd. The coconut candy demo was fun (and tasty), and the sampan boat through the coconut-lined canal was incredibly calming.
Lunch was plentiful and delicious—especially the elephant ear fish. Everything was very well-organized and we were back in Can Tho by late afternoon, just in time for a beer by the river. Absolutely recommend if you want something authentic but convenient from Can Tho.
