Pick-up08:00 AM, the car driver (no tour guide) will pick you up from your hotel in Can Tho City and transfer to My Tho boat station (about 11:00 AM) where your tour guide will greet and welcome you for embarking the boat.

Vinh Trang pagodaThe reststop on the way at the pagoda, the car driver will stop at Vinh Trang pagoda in My Tho which was built in 1849. It is the greatest pagoda of Tien Giang Province and was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1984.

Cruising on the mighty Mekong RiverArrive My Tho boat station (where you meet the tour guide), boarding the motorboat at a pier and cruising on the mighty Mekong River. Here, overlooking floating houses where fishes are farmed beneath the house around 4 islands of the Dragon island, Thoi Son island (Unicorn island), Phoenix island, Turtle islet (viewing from the motorboat).

Coco candy producing processContinuing the journey on the river until reaching the local hidden Tan Thach village (which is less touristy than Thoi Son island tourism a lot), you will get to know many things about coconut uses (coconut candy, wine, oil, mat, coco shell), the tour guide will explain about coco candy producing process at the local coconut workshop as well – very kid-friendly. Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of local people.

Horse cartTake a short walk to explore the village. Enjoy more Mekong countryside with the horse cart as a Landlord in the old days. Arrive another village - a performance site where Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) can be heard and seasonal tropical fruits and honey tea can be tasted (included).

Hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canalAfterward, being on a hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal and slowly cruising through a small creek with beautiful overhanging coconut trees. Lives from both sides of the creek can be observed.

End the tourDisembark at My Tho boat station where the car driver (no tour guide) waits for you there and picks you up and transfers straight to Can Tho city. Arrive Can Tho around 4-5pm.

This was my first time back in Vietnam after 10 years, and I wanted something meaningful—not just touristy stuff. I booked this day tour from Can Tho and couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Lâm. His warmth and depth of knowledge made everything more personal.
We visited the serene Vĩnh Tràng pagoda (I lit some incense for my grandma), then continued to the boat pier. I loved seeing the floating houses on the river and especially appreciated visiting the less-touristy Tan Thach village. Lâm explained how every part of the coconut is used—I felt proud of the resourcefulness of our people.
Una giornata molto piacevole lontano dai soliti percorsi turistici. Il viaggio in auto da Can Tho a My Tho è stato comodo, con una sosta alla bellissima pagoda Vinh Trang. Poi Danh, la nostra guida, ci ha accolto al molo e da lì è iniziata l’esperienza vera e propria sul fiume.
Ci è piaciuto molto il villaggio Tan Thach, dove abbiamo scoperto come si produce il caramello di cocco. Danh ci ha raccontato con passione della cultura locale. Il giro in carrozza e la musica tradizionale sono stati momenti molto autentici, e la gita in barca a remi tra le palme… semplicemente poetica.
Il pranzo? Ottimo, pesce fresco e piatti locali ben preparati. Siamo rientrati a Can Tho rilassati e contenti. Grazie mille, Danh!
