Pick-up08:00 AM, the car driver (no tour guide) will pick you up from your hotel in Can Tho City and transfer to My Tho boat station (about 11:00 AM) where your tour guide will greet and welcome you for embarking the boat.

Vinh Trang pagodaThe reststop on the way at the pagoda, the car driver will stop at Vinh Trang pagoda in My Tho which was built in 1849. It is the greatest pagoda of Tien Giang Province and was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1984.

Cruising on the mighty Mekong RiverArrive My Tho boat station (where you meet the tour guide), boarding the motorboat at a pier and cruising on the mighty Mekong River. Here, overlooking floating houses where fishes are farmed beneath the house around 4 islands of the Dragon island, Thoi Son island (Unicorn island), Phoenix island, Turtle islet (viewing from the motorboat).

Coco candy producing processContinuing the journey on the river until reaching the local hidden Tan Thach village (which is less touristy than Thoi Son island tourism a lot), you will get to know many things about coconut uses (coconut candy, wine, oil, mat, coco shell), the tour guide will explain about coco candy producing process at the local coconut workshop as well – very kid-friendly. Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of local people.

Horse cartTake a short walk to explore the village. Enjoy more Mekong countryside with the horse cart as a Landlord in the old days. Arrive another village - a performance site where Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) can be heard and seasonal tropical fruits and honey tea can be tasted (included).

Hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canalAfterward, being on a hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal and slowly cruising through a small creek with beautiful overhanging coconut trees. Lives from both sides of the creek can be observed.

End the tourDisembark at My Tho boat station where the car driver (no tour guide) waits for you there and picks you up and transfers straight to Can Tho city. Arrive Can Tho around 4-5pm.

Traveling with our two young kids, we were worried about long travel times or boring bits—but this tour worked really well. Our driver was kind and helpful (even offered toilet stops), and once we met Hannah in My Tho, things were smooth sailing—literally!
Hannah made the coconut workshop so fun for the kids. They got to try candy, touch coconuts, and even hop on a horse cart. The traditional music was brief but charming, and the sampan ride felt like a gentle adventure.
The lunch spot was clean and shaded, and the elephant ear fish was crispy and delicious. A lovely day out for families based in Can Tho. We were back by 5pm with lots of smiles and coconut candy in our bag!
C’était notre dernier jour dans le Delta, alors nous avons choisi une excursion à la journée depuis Cần Thơ. Le chauffeur est venu nous chercher à l’heure, direction Mỹ Tho avec un arrêt très agréable à la pagode Vĩnh Tràng. C’est là que nous avons rencontré Thomas, notre guide francophone (et anglophone aussi), super sympa, très clair dans ses explications.
On a visité un atelier artisanal de bonbons à la noix de coco, goûté des fruits tropicaux, du thé au miel, écouté de la musique traditionnelle et même fait un petit tour en charrette à cheval ! Mention spéciale pour la promenade en barque dans le canal bordé de palmiers, c’était magique.
Un bon repas avec du poisson oreille d’éléphant, puis retour tranquille à Cần Thơ. Journée bien remplie, sans stress. Merci Thomas !
