Itinerary
  • Pick-up
    11:00 AM, the driver & tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in My Tho City and transfer to My Tho boat station for embarking the boat.
  • Cruising on the mighty Mekong River
    Boarding the motorboat at a pier and cruising on the mighty Mekong River. Here, overlooking floating houses where fishes are farmed beneath the house around 4 islands of the Dragon island, Thoi Son island (Unicorn island), Phoenix island, Turtle islet (viewing from the motorboat).
  • Coco candy producing process
    Continuing the journey on the river until reaching the local hidden Tan Thach village (which is less touristy than Thoi Son island tourism a lot), you will get to know many things about coconut uses (coconut candy, wine, oil, mat, coco shell), the tour guide will explain about coco candy producing process at the local coconut workshop as well – very kid-friendly. Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of local people.
  • Horse cart
    Take a short walk to explore the village. Enjoy more Mekong countryside with the horse cart as a Landlord in the old days. Arrive another village - a performance site where Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) can be heard and seasonal tropical fruits and honey tea can be tasted (included).
  • Hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal
    Afterward, being on a hand-rowing sampan (smalboat) in a small canal and slowly cruising through a small creek with beautiful overhanging coconut trees. Lives from both sides of the creek can be observed.
  • Lunch with an elephant ear fish
    Around noon, have an authentic set menu lunch with an elephant ear fish.
  • End the tour
    Disembark at My Tho boat station where the car driver waits for you there and picks you up and transfers straight to your hotel in My Tho city. End the tour around 2:30 PM.

    Coconut Villages, Canal Peace, and a Memorable Meal

    This tour was the perfect way to see a unique part of Vietnam without having to wake up early! Our guide Hannah was super friendly, spoke excellent English, and made sure we got the most out of every stop. Visiting Tan Thach village was a smart choice — far less touristy than other places. Seeing the coconut candy process up close was fun (and tasty), and the horse cart ride gave us a nostalgic feel of old Vietnamese countryside life. Ending with a riverside lunch featuring elephant ear fish was the cherry on top. Highly recommend this experience, especially if you want something authentic and well-paced.

    Perfect Midday Escape into Local Mekong Life

    Our midday tour with guide Chris was everything we hoped for and more! Starting at 11:00 AM was a great choice — no rush, just relaxed exploration. Chris was incredibly knowledgeable and easy to connect with, sharing fascinating stories about the floating houses and coconut culture of the region. We loved the peaceful hand-rowed sampan trip through the coconut canals — it was one of the most serene moments of our trip. The lunch with elephant ear fish was absolutely delicious, fresh, and served in a lovely garden setting. This tour gives you a perfect glimpse of authentic Mekong life without the crowds.
