Hidden Gem in the Mekong – Unspoiled and Soulful

We were lucky to have Hannah guide us through this tranquil slice of paradise. She told us about how Tra Su forest had once been destroyed and how it’s now thriving — you could see the pride in her eyes. The motorboat glided quietly through cajeput trees, but the magic happened on the sampan: no noise, just the oar dipping in water, birds above, green reflections everywhere. I’ve been to national parks around the world, but this felt personal. The observation tower gave us a view stretching into Cambodia. Lunch was simple — rice, fresh fish, vegetables — but deeply satisfying. Saying goodbye to Hannah and heading to Can Tho, I couldn’t stop replaying the serenity in my head.

A Slow Journey into Silence and Green

From the moment David greeted us, I felt at ease. He shared his love for the Mekong region during our drive, pointing out sugar palms, canals, and quiet Khmer temples along the way. At Tra Su, the motorboat gave us our first look at the vast forest. Then came the highlight: the rowing sampan. The silence, the birds, the shimmering green all around — it brought tears to my eyes. David gently explained the bird migration patterns and how this forest became a sanctuary. The bamboo bridge walk was light and fun, and the lookout tower gave a powerful sense of just how massive and alive this place is. After lunch under the trees, we said farewell to David, but I carried his passion with me to Can Tho.
