Chris had the rare ability to balance professionalism with heartfelt emotion. His love for Chau Doc was contagious. As we drifted on the sampan, he invited us to slow down, to really observe. The floating fish farm was fascinating, but it was the faces of the people—their smiles, their strength—that stayed with me. Chris translated a conversation with a fisherman, and even though we spoke different languages, I felt I understood. As the sky turned to gold and the water mirrored its beauty, Chris quietly said, “This is why I love my job.” I understand why. This was not tourism—it was immersion. Real, raw, and unforgettable
David was a joy from the beginning—funny, sincere, and full of stories. His gentle enthusiasm set the tone for what became a magical experience. I had expected a pretty sunset. I hadn’t expected to feel so moved by the lives along the river, or by the simplicity of it all. We floated past homes on stilts, children waving with such joy, and families who live in ways so different from ours in Europe, yet with such dignity. The fish farm was impressive, and David explained how important it is for the local economy. When the sunset came, we sat in silence. The water glowed. And I felt something shift inside. Peace, perhaps. Gratitude. I’m not sure. But I’ll never forget it.
