3-Day Authentic Mekong Delta Discovery — HCMC to Can Tho via Ben Tre & Tra Su

This 3-day journey through the Mekong Delta was absolutely packed with charm, authenticity, and meaningful cultural insights. If you want to experience the real heart of southern Vietnam beyond the tourist trail, this is it.

Day 1: HCMC – Ben Tre – Can Tho
The tour began with a comfortable ride from Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre. Our guide, Lan, was warm, attentive, and full of local knowledge. We loved the peaceful boat ride through the Mekong and the visit to the traditional brick kiln — a fascinating look at rural craftsmanship. The coconut workshop was a highlight for our kids, who got to see (and taste!) coconut candy being made. The Xe Loi ride through the countryside and the hand-rowed sampan weaving through coconut canals made for an unforgettable morning. After a delicious garden lunch, we headed to Can Tho and arrived just in time for a sunset stroll along the riverfront.

Day 2: Tra Su Forest Day Trip
We left early from Can Tho and headed to the enchanting Tra Su forest. The boat ride into the flooded forest, blanketed in green duckweed, was magical — peaceful, quiet, and full of birdlife. The bamboo bridge walk and the observation tower offered stunning views. We stopped at golden rice fields and sugar palm farms on the way back, and I appreciated how Lan explained the farming culture in detail. The visit to the ancient Khmer pagoda was another peaceful, spiritual moment that added depth to the day.

Day 3: Can Tho Floating Market & Return to HCMC
This day was the perfect finale. We got to Cai Rang floating market at sunrise and watched the vibrant trading scene unfold. Breakfast on the boat was surreal — noodle soup made right on the river. The rice noodle factory was a hidden gem — simple, authentic, and truly local. We biked through a village, sampled fresh fruit in a garden, and visited a cacao farm where we learned how chocolate is made and sipped delicious cacao milk. After lunch, we headed back to HCMC with our hearts full of stories and photos.

Each day offered something unique and personal. The combination of boat rides, rural roads, nature, and interactions with locals made this tour feel intimate and real.

Unreal Scenery, Genuine Encounters – The Best of the Mekong in 3 Days

If you’re considering a Mekong Delta tour, stop searching and book this one. I’ve done many tours across Asia, but this was something entirely different — it felt human, grounded, and eye-opening in all the right ways. The team behind this tour is exceptional. Special thanks to Hieu, Lam, Thomas, and Hannah — each brought their own style, humor, and knowledge to the experience.

Day 1 was our Ben Tre adventure, and Lam was the perfect guide to kick things off. We explored coconut workshops, watched traditional brick-making, and cruised through narrow canals on a hand-rowed sampan. What I appreciated most was how unscripted everything felt — we interacted with locals genuinely, not just as spectators. The lunch in the garden was a beautiful moment of calm (and that elephant ear fish was outstanding!).

On Day 2, Hieu took us deep into Tra Su forest. This day was made for nature lovers. Between the birdwatching from a motorboat, the peaceful sampan ride through duckweed-covered canals, and the view from the tower, I was completely immersed. Walking the bamboo bridge through the forest felt surreal — like stepping into a nature documentary. We also stopped at a Khmer pagoda and sugar palm fields, where Hieu’s storytelling brought history and culture to life.

Day 3 was guided by Thomas and Hannah, and they made sure our final day was just as special. We caught the sunrise over the Cai Rang floating market — an experience you have to see before it disappears. We slurped down noodle soup from a boat, visited a family-run noodle house (not rice paper!), and biked through quiet villages where locals waved and smiled as we passed. At the cacao farm, we learned about “Mr. Cacao” and sampled fresh cacao milk — something I never expected in Vietnam!

We ended the tour with full hearts and minds. Hannah even helped us find snacks for the ride back to HCMC — a small touch that meant a lot. Every single stop felt intentional, intimate, and never rushed. This tour goes far beyond sightseeing — it’s a true connection to the Mekong and its people.

Can Tho Rice Noodle Factory & Villages

Nowadays, there are more and more green and responsible tours which are meaningful and educational as well. This is why Can Tho noodle factory is getting popular for both Vietnamese and foreigners to come and explore the cuisine culture and the typical local life in Can Tho, Mekong Delta.
