The kind of experience you write postcards about — but never capture fully

David is one of those guides who feels more like an old friend. He made jokes, shared personal stories, even introduced us to his cousin who runs the cacao farm. The day was full of small details — dragonflies by the canals, a grandfather napping under a tree, kids chasing a dog barefoot. The Binh Thuy house was elegant but also strangely melancholic. David said it was like Vietnam itself — proud, layered, and carrying ghosts. I liked that. The ficus tree was powerful. Not in a flashy way — but in a way that made you stop and listen. Then came the food: smoky pancakes, herbs that burst with flavor, cold beer in plastic cups. I wish I could bottle that moment. I tried writing about it in my travel journal later that night, but it didn’t come close.

    Raw, real, and totally unforgettable

What a ride — literally and emotionally. I wasn’t expecting much when I signed up. I just wanted to get out of the city. But Danh turned the whole day into this layered, soulful thing I’ll remember forever. The motorbike part was fun — dusty, loud, fast — but it’s what we stopped to see that mattered most. The Binh Thuy house was a kind of quiet grandeur, but the ficus tree? That hit me. Danh spoke about the Viet Cong hiding there, how they blended into the landscape, how war touched every corner of this land. We sat at the riverside café, hammocks swaying, and I just stared at the water for a long time. Not talking. Just… feeling. And then the food — wild, crispy, greasy in the best way. Duck, shrimp, beer, laughter. I think Vietnam got under my skin that day.
