A Living Painting of the Mekong

The day began on the river, right before the sun cracked open the sky. Chris helped us understand why the floating market is slowly vanishing, and I found myself appreciating every boat and vendor all the more. We had coffee from a boat, soup from another—breakfast has never been so alive.

Our boat turned into tiny canals lined with water coconut and mangrove. We didn’t talk much. We just listened—to the birds, the water, and the heart of the Mekong.

Later, the rice noodle family showed us how noodles are made by hand. It was charming, personal, and gave us a real sense of pride in the local culture.

But the highlight for me came in the afternoon, when we stood at the top of the observation tower in Tra Su, looking out over the green sea of cajeput trees. The silence was deep, almost sacred. Even lunch in the forest restaurant felt connected to the land—simple food, made with love.

Driving back, we passed fields painted with sunlight and shadows, stopping for fresh palm juice and snapping surreal pictures.

And just before the day ended, we stepped into a Khmer pagoda. Timeless, peaceful, with golden stupas rising quietly into the sky. A gentle finish to a vivid day.

From Noodles to Nature: A Soulful Day in the Delta

Waking up at 5 a.m. isn’t usually my idea of a great holiday, but David made it absolutely worth it. Our first stop, the floating market, felt like an echo from the past—real, raw, and deeply human. We sipped coffee on the boat, slurped a bowl of the best vegetarian noodles ever, and watched the sunrise tint the Mekong golden.

The rice noodle “factory” was humble but so full of life. I loved that it wasn’t touristy. Just a family doing their thing—and letting us in for a glimpse. And the noodle pizza? A surprisingly delicious treat!

After that, we floated gently through serene canals, where the boat’s engine stopped and all we heard were birds, rustling palms, and David’s calm explanations. The silence was sacred.

Then the rhythm of the day shifted. We were driven to Tra Su forest, and the birdlife took my breath away. The tower view, the bamboo bridge walk, the soft paddling through flooded cajeput trees—it was magic. Lunch in the forest was authentic and delicious.

Later, under the scorching sun, we passed by emerald rice fields and even stopped to taste fresh sugar palm juice. The day ended with a visit to a Khmer pagoda that radiated ancient peace and quiet dignity.

This day stretched my soul. Thank you, David.
