A lovely slow travel day in the Mekong

This was exactly the kind of experience I was looking for—off the beaten path but still well taken care of.
Chris, our guide, met us in Cai Be with a bright smile and excellent energy. He introduced us to every part of Mekong life with such passion.
I loved the coconut workshop—it’s fun to watch how they make the candy, and the pop rice machine was LOUD but cool!
Chris didn’t sugarcoat anything—he told us about how the floating market had shrunk, but still, seeing the few boats was a quiet kind of charm.
Lunch on the island was fresh and delicious—the elephant ear fish was served beautifully and so crisp.
What surprised me most was how meditative the rowing sampan was. Drifting under the trees, no noise but the water—it stayed with me.
Last stop: brick kilns in Vinh Long. I thought it might be skippable, but I was wrong—it was impressive, especially the sheer size and how they’re still used.
This day showed me a Vietnam I hadn’t seen before—calm, real, welcoming.
