Perfect day with kids – educational and fun

We were traveling with our two daughters (ages 7 and 10) and were a bit worried whether the tour would keep them engaged—but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our Vietnam trip!
Our guide Lâm met us in Cai Be with a warm welcome and immediately made our girls feel at ease. He explained everything in a way that they could understand and relate to.
The coconut candy workshop was a hit—they got to see, taste, and even help roll a piece of candy. The pop rice machine made them jump with excitement.
The sampan ride was calm and safe, and we even spotted some fish and birds along the way.
Lunch was in a lovely garden—our girls tried the elephant ear fish (a bit hesitantly) and ended up loving it.
I personally enjoyed the brick kiln in Vinh Long—it was more interesting than I imagined.
Lâm was patient, kind, and very good with children. If you’re a family looking for something genuine but not too intense, this is perfect.

    The Mekong Beyond the Brochure

This tour delivered way more than I expected. Our driver in the morning was on time and smooth. Once we got to Cai Be, David, our tour guide, took over.
We cruised past stilt houses and workshops, and David explained every detail with real passion.
The coconut candy-making was a treat (literally), and I even bought a few packs to take home. We saw how they make rice wine and tasted pop rice—it pops like popcorn but crunchier!
The floating market had just a few boats left, as David warned us. But no problem—we’re going to Can Tho tomorrow!
I really enjoyed the traditional music show on the island. Simple, warm, and emotional.
The rowing sampan was short but sweet—great photo ops and a nice chance to slow down.
Lunch was probably the best part: elephant ear fish, herbs, fresh rolls, all under fruit trees.
And I loved that we didn’t just turn around—we cruised to Vinh Long and ended with the brick kiln. Felt like an adventure from start to finish.
Back in Saigon by 5:45 PM with a full heart.
