When I booked this tour, I expected a relaxing boat ride and some countryside scenery. What I didn’t expect was to walk away feeling like I had touched a deeper layer of Vietnam—and that’s thanks to our guide, Chris.
Chris greeted us at the Cai Be boat station with genuine warmth and curiosity about where we were from. He was an incredible storyteller—mixing history, humor, and personal insight in a way that made everything feel alive. We cruised past stilt houses and floating homes, each with a story Chris was eager to share.
The local workshop stop was one of my highlights. I never thought I’d be so interested in things like snake wine and rice popcorn, but Chris made it fun and interactive. He even convinced me to try the snake wine… something I’ll never forget!
The floating market isn’t what it used to be, but Chris explained how life has changed post-Covid, and instead of feeling disappointed, I felt respect. People are adapting, surviving—and still smiling.
The sampan ride through narrow canals was almost meditative. The silence, broken only by birds and paddles, was the kind of moment I travel for. Our lunch in the garden was fresh, filling, and prepared with such care it felt like visiting a friend’s home. I especially loved the elephant ear fish—it was the best I had during my entire stay in Vietnam.
Finally, the brick kilns in Vinh Long were a beautiful surprise. Stark, towering, and alive with tradition. Chris made sure we understood how these places are more than production—they’re a living heritage.
This wasn’t a checklist tour—it was a slow, meaningful journey. I’m so grateful for it.
This tour from Cai Be to Vinh Long gave me the kind of connection to Vietnam I had been craving since I landed. I’ve always loved being near water, and the Mekong has this powerful, quiet energy to it. We were warmly greeted by our guide, Tai, when we arrived at the Cai Be boat station. His calm, easygoing nature made everything flow naturally from the start.
The stops along the way felt authentic—not polished tourist sites, but real windows into everyday life. Tai was fantastic at explaining everything without overwhelming us. Watching locals make coconut candy and pop rice was fascinating (I never knew popcorn could be made like that!), and the free samples were delicious.
The Cai Be floating market may not be as busy as it once was, but seeing even a few trading boats out there felt like witnessing something precious that’s slowly fading. Tai handled the conversation around this change with honesty and care—it made me appreciate the cultural shifts locals are facing.
The quiet sampan ride through the canal on Tan Phong Islet was incredibly peaceful. There’s something about slowly drifting beneath coconut trees, listening to the soft sounds of the water, that stays with you long after. And the home-cooked lunch in the garden—wow. The elephant ear fish was fresh and crispy, served with love.
Ending the day with a visit to the Vinh Long brick kilns was a surprisingly moving touch. Tai explained how each kiln is passed through generations, and you could feel the pride in the work. This tour wasn’t just about seeing—it was about feeling, and thanks to Tai, I felt it all.
