Pick-upThe car driver (no tour guide) will pick you up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to Cai Be boat station (about 10:00 AM) where your tour guide will greet and welcome you for embarking the boat.

Coconut cand & pop riceArrive in Cai Be, start the Mekong boat trip from there. Discover the village, house on stilts. Then, keep cruising and visiting a local workshop, there are things to see such as coconut candy producing process (very kid-friendly), pop rice, rice wine, snake wine...Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of the local Mekong people.

Cai Be Floating Market (about 10 boats after Covid)The boat continues on reaching the island for enjoying Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as - Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity). Your boat trip also passes by Cai Be floating market but it has already disappeared after Covid (now Cai Be floating market has about 10 boats only, it will be great to see the beautiful Can Tho floating market on the next day).

The rowing sampan and small canalsLeave the big boat behind for a while. Let’s experience the rowing sampan (with the locals) and a small canal on Tan Phong Islet. A must photo of Mekong featured with the sampan.

This tour was the perfect way to see more of the Mekong before returning to Ho Chi Minh City. Minh was a fantastic guide — easygoing, informative, and super passionate about the region.
Starting in Can Tho, we headed straight to the boat in Vinh Long. The pottery kilns were a great intro — rustic and real. Then we crossed the river to Tan Phong island. The lunch there was fresh and full of flavor. The elephant ear fish is a showstopper!
After that, we hopped on a little sampan to explore narrow canals. Peaceful and green — I could have stayed in that boat all day. We ended with a visit to a local workshop: coconut candy, puffed rice, and even a taste of rice wine. The car ride back to HCMC was smooth and comfortable. Highly recommend this route if you want to make the most of your travel day!
We loved this tour from start to finish, especially thanks to our hilarious and very knowledgeable guide David. He made everything lighthearted but still gave us tons of information.
Starting in Can Tho, we first visited the traditional pottery site — I loved photographing the red brick towers. The garden lunch was peaceful and delicious. Then the highlight: the sampan ride! It was like being in a dream — no noise, just paddles in the water and palm trees all around.
David kept things fun at the coconut workshop too — I may have tried too many sweets and a sip of snake wine 😅. The transfer back to HCMC was smooth and on time. If you want a relaxing, authentic experience with a witty guide, David’s your guy.
