Pick-upThe car driver (no tour guide) will pick you up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to Cai Be boat station (about 10:00 AM) where your tour guide will greet and welcome you for embarking the boat.

Coconut cand & pop riceArrive in Cai Be, start the Mekong boat trip from there. Discover the village, house on stilts. Then, keep cruising and visiting a local workshop, there are things to see such as coconut candy producing process (very kid-friendly), pop rice, rice wine, snake wine...Enjoying free samples of local specialties and discovering daily activities of the local Mekong people.

Cai Be Floating Market (about 10 boats after Covid)The boat continues on reaching the island for enjoying Vietnamese traditional music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử - A folk art form from Southern Vietnam accredited by UNESCO in 2013 as - Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity). Your boat trip also passes by Cai Be floating market but it has already disappeared after Covid (now Cai Be floating market has about 10 boats only, it will be great to see the beautiful Can Tho floating market on the next day).

The rowing sampan and small canalsLeave the big boat behind for a while. Let’s experience the rowing sampan (with the locals) and a small canal on Tan Phong Islet. A must photo of Mekong featured with the sampan.

Chris was an amazing guide — super organized, easygoing, and had deep knowledge about the Mekong region. The day started with a smooth drive from Saigon to Cai Be, where we hopped on a boat and began exploring.
The candy-making and pop rice station was unexpectedly fun. Chris explained everything clearly, and we got to taste some really unique flavors. The sampan ride was a highlight — quiet canals, waving locals, and a peaceful break from the buzz of the city. The lunch with elephant ear fish was fresh and plentiful. Visiting the brick kilns in Vinh Long was an eye-opener to local craftsmanship. I’d absolutely recommend this tour to anyone wanting a mix of culture, food, and nature.
After a few hectic days in Ho Chi Minh City, this tour was the perfect way to slow down. Minh was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about his region. I appreciated how the tour avoided anything too “touristy.” The visit to the coconut and rice snack workshop was fun and the samples were delicious.
The small canal ride on the sampan was the highlight for me – peaceful and picturesque. Lunch was tasty and not rushed at all. Visiting the traditional brick kilns in Vinh Long gave a glimpse of local crafts and industry. By the time we reached Can Tho in the afternoon, I felt completely recharged. Thank you Minh!
