This was not just a boat ride or a touristy day trip—it was a soul-touching glimpse into life on the Mekong Delta. Lam, our guide, was exceptional—gentle, passionate, and so respectful of the people we visited. The pop rice and coconut candy tasting was a fun surprise, and my kids were mesmerized. But the true highlight for me was the rowing sampan experience. Floating quietly through the narrow canal, shaded by lush greenery, I felt deeply connected to a way of life that’s slowly disappearing. Lam shared his own childhood memories of growing up in the Delta—it made the whole experience even more moving.
From the moment our driver picked us up in Ho Chi Minh City, everything felt so seamless and well-orchestrated. We met our guide Duy at the Cai Be boat station, and he immediately made us feel welcome. His warmth, humor, and deep knowledge of the region brought everything to life—from the coconut candy factory to the peaceful boat ride through the small canals. I loved watching local life unfold around us—children playing near their homes on stilts, the gentle clinking of pottery being shaped in Vinh Long. Duy’s storytelling was heartfelt, and I could tell how proud he was of his culture. It was a day I’ll never forget.
