Our day trip from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta was truly unforgettable. From the moment we were picked up, everything ran smoothly. When we reached Cai Be boat station, our guide Minh warmly welcomed us aboard. Minh’s knowledge about the local culture made the visit to the coconut candy workshop and pop rice production so engaging — even the kids were fascinated!
Although the Cai Be floating market is smaller now after Covid, Minh helped us appreciate the unique charm of the few remaining boats and shared stories about the vibrant market days past. The highlight was definitely the peaceful sampan ride through the narrow canals of Tan Phong Islet — a perfect photo opportunity and a glimpse into daily life on the river.
Lunch in the garden was delicious, with fresh elephant ear fish and a lovely ambiance. We then visited the traditional pottery kilns in Vinh Long, which was a great way to round off the cultural experience. Minh’s passion and friendly approach made the entire journey smooth and memorable.
Ending in Can Tho was convenient for us, and the driver ensured a comfortable trip. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting an authentic Mekong Delta experience.
After spending a few hectic days in Ho Chi Minh City, this journey through the Mekong was the exact change of pace I needed. What made it even better was having Thomas as our guide—a warm, easygoing guy who knew how to turn a simple boat ride into a real story.
We started in Cai Be, where Thomas met us with a big smile and a thoughtful intro to the region’s river culture. I loved seeing how people live in houses on stilts—it’s one thing to read about it, another to cruise by slowly and witness it in motion.
At the local workshop, Thomas guided us through tastings and demos, pointing out details I’d have otherwise missed. The pop rice machine was a crowd favorite, and I actually enjoyed trying the snake wine—at least once in a lifetime, right?
Even though the Cai Be floating market is a shadow of what it once was, Thomas handled that shift with sensitivity. He spoke about how the Can Tho market tomorrow still holds the vibrant spirit of Mekong trade. I appreciated the honesty.
The rowboat ride through the quiet canals of Tan Phong was my personal highlight. No engine noise, just the sound of paddles cutting water, and lush green surroundings. I’ll remember that moment of stillness for a long time.
The lunch in the garden felt like being welcomed into someone’s home—simple, generous, and full of flavor. The pottery kilns in Vinh Long gave us one last cultural hit before the peaceful ride to Can Tho.
I can’t thank Thomas enough—his calm presence made it all feel effortless. If you want a real look at life along the Mekong, this is how you do it.
