Tours in group
I’m not usually one for organized tours, but this one felt different—more like a slow, personal exploration of a region most travelers only skim. A huge part of that feeling came from our amazing guide, Duy, who brought the day to life with sincerity and great local insight.
We met Duy in Cai Be, and from the moment we stepped on the boat, he made us feel welcome. His pace was relaxed but attentive—he answered every question with a smile and always gave just the right amount of detail.
At the village workshop, we watched pop rice explode in a giant pan, tried freshly made coconut candy, and even braved a sip of snake wine! Duy made everything approachable and light-hearted, especially for those a bit hesitant (like me!). He also shared touching stories about how local families have adapted their trades post-pandemic.
The floating market was small but still charming. Duy didn’t pretend it was grand—it was better than that. He helped us understand its significance, even as it evolves into something quieter. Then came my favorite part: the rowing boat on Tan Phong Islet. It was peaceful and scenic, but also felt authentic—locals rowing us through their world.
Lunch in the shaded garden was so peaceful, with a full set menu that felt hearty and home-cooked. The elephant ear fish was beautifully presented, and Duy helped us understand how every dish connects to the land.
The brick kilns in Vinh Long were a surprise bonus. Towering, warm, and full of character. Duy’s passion for the region shone here—he spoke of them with pride.
I ended the day feeling grateful—not just for the places, but for the people who shared them with us. Thank you, Duy, for making this day so special.
There’s something special about a day spent floating through the Mekong, where everything slows down and the outside world fades a bit. This tour from Cai Be to Vinh Long gave me that rare stillness, and it was all beautifully guided by Lam, who added depth and warmth to every stop along the way.
Lam greeted us at the boat station with sincere enthusiasm. His style of guiding felt more like storytelling than lecturing, and I loved how he weaved personal experiences into the cultural explanations. Our first stop at the local workshop was surprisingly fun—watching how pop rice and coconut candy were made was both fascinating and nostalgic. The smells, the heat of the open fire, the chance to taste everything—it was a sensory feast.
Passing the Cai Be floating market, Lam talked openly about how things have changed since Covid, which gave me a deeper appreciation for the resilience of local communities. Even though the market isn’t what it once was, there was something poignant in watching the few remaining boats still going about their daily trade.
Later, drifting silently on a sampan through narrow canals, I had one of those “I’ll remember this forever” moments. Water lapping softly, trees arching overhead, and nothing to hear but birds and paddles. Magic.
Our lunch in a garden on Tan Phong Island was simply lovely. The elephant ear fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Then came the surprise of the day—the Vinh Long brick kilns. I never expected a brick oven to move me, but Lam explained the family traditions behind them, and I walked away seeing them not just as structures, but as stories.
This was not just sightseeing. It was a soulful journey. Grazie, Lam!
