This full-day tour from Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre and then on to Can Tho was an amazing way to dive deep into Mekong Delta life. We were picked up promptly at 8 AM and enjoyed a comfortable ride to Ben Tre.
The boat trip on the Mekong River was peaceful and scenic. Visiting the traditional brick kiln was a fascinating look into the heritage craft of mud brick making. We then stopped at a local coconut house, where the guide explained the many uses of coconuts — from candy to wine and mats — and we loved sampling the sweet treats. It was super kid-friendly and engaging for everyone.
Cruising through the coconut canals gave us stunning views and a refreshing sense of calm. A short village walk added a personal touch, followed by a visit to a mat weaving village where we got hands-on experience and met some very warm locals.
One of the fun surprises was riding the Xe Loi — a Mekong tuk tuk — which took us through charming villages and countryside paths. Lunch was served in a garden setting and included delicious elephant ear fish, making it a very authentic and memorable meal.
After lunch, the Do Cheo sampan ride through narrow coconut canals was a serene way to end the Ben Tre part of the tour. By 2 PM, we were back in Ben Tre city, where the car picked us up for the transfer to Can Tho. The drive was comfortable and scenic, and we arrived around early evening.
The option to extend or transfer to other cities like Vinh Long or Chau Doc is a nice plus if you want to explore more.
Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a full, well-paced Mekong Delta cultural and natural experience — with plenty of authentic local interactions and a great blend of boat, tuk tuk, and walking activities.
This Ben Tre tour was just what we wanted—a mix of culture, nature, and local life. Our guide, Chris, was wonderful, explaining every step of the coconut candy process and sharing insights about local traditions. The boat trip through the coconut canals was stunning, and the handmade mat weaving village was a unique experience. Riding the Xe Loi tuk tuk was both fun and eye-opening. The home-cooked lunch was delicious, and rowing the sampan gave us a peaceful connection to the water. A perfect day trip from Ho Chi Minh City!
