When Thomas picked us up at the hotel, the air was still cool and quiet. He shared stories about life along the river — the floods, the festivals, the resilience. I was impressed by how every part of the coconut has a use. Watching the women wrap candies and chatting happily made me smile. The Xe Lôi ride was both funny and exciting — I felt like a local for a moment, waving back at people on the roadside. Lunch under the fruit trees was slow and delicious; I tried the elephant ear fish and ended up having seconds! The small boat ride afterward was pure magic — sunlight through palm leaves, dragonflies over the water. It wasn’t just sightseeing; it was tasting the rhythm of Mekong life.
The Ben Tre tour with Minh was everything I hoped for — calm, beautiful, and full of real life. The brick kiln was our first stop, where I watched men lift heavy clay bricks with an ease that comes only from years of doing it. Then the coconut house — oh, the smell of freshly cooked caramelized candy! Minh explained every step with such patience. I loved that it wasn’t staged; people were genuinely working, smiling when we peeked in. The Xe Lôi ride through green paths was my favorite part — dogs barking, kids waving, roosters everywhere. Lunch was served in a peaceful garden, with that famous elephant ear fish and fresh herbs. As we drifted later through narrow canals on a sampan, I realized how different peace feels here — it hums softly, like the river itself.
