    Short, sweet, and so satisfying

I usually prefer multi-day tours, but this one-day trip from Can Tho to Ben Tre surprised me with how much it packed into such a short time. The logistics were seamless – the driver picked us up in Can Tho, and then Thomas met us with a big smile at the boat station.

We cruised down the Mekong, stopping at some fascinating places – the brick kiln was so raw and real, and the coconut workshop was more interactive than I expected. Thomas kept everything lighthearted and informative. The ride on the Xe Lôi was bumpy but super fun, and seeing those quiet villages was a reminder of how different life can be just a few hours away from the city.

Lunch in the garden was a highlight. Elephant ear fish was crispy and fresh, and the setting felt like someone’s peaceful backyard. The sampan ride was short but scenic, and it all wrapped up beautifully before heading back to Can Tho. Highly recommend if you’re short on time!

Wonderful day trip into rural Mekong life

We were picked up at our hotel in Can Tho and drove through peaceful countryside to Ben Tre, where Chris, our guide, greeted us with a warm smile. I’ve traveled quite a bit, but this day felt different – slower in the best possible way. We started with a calm boat ride along the Mekong, where Chris explained how the brick kilns worked. The heat from the kiln was intense, but fascinating to witness.

My favorite part was the coconut workshop – I never realized how many products could come from a single coconut! We tried fresh coconut candy and even sampled coconut wine (I’m not a fan, but it was fun to try). The mat weaving village was another highlight; the women were so skilled, and I appreciated how Chris translated their stories.

Lunch was an experience in itself – elephant ear fish served in a lush garden. The crispy skin with fresh herbs and rice paper was delicious. The sampan ride afterward through narrow canals was incredibly peaceful. By the time we returned to Can Tho, I felt like I had stepped out of time for a few hours.
