It was a quiet morning drive from Can Tho, but everything changed when we met David and boarded the boat. The rhythm of the river took over. At the brick kiln, David explained how tradition meets daily survival — it made me appreciate every detail. The coconut house was amazing: sweet, sticky candy, aromatic oil, and laughter all around. Watching the craftspeople work was inspiring. Floating deeper into the canals, I was overwhelmed by the peacefulness. At the mat weaving stop, we were warmly welcomed, and I even tried weaving! Xe Loi was chaotic fun in the best way — wind, music, and smiling villagers. Lunch was divine — crunchy, fragrant elephant ear fish wrapped in herbs and rice paper. The sampan ride was like a lullaby. David’s storytelling and humor made the day feel like traveling with an old friend.
Leaving Can Tho early, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when we reached Ben Tre and met Hannah, I felt instantly excited. Cruising the Mekong was dreamy — warm wind, glistening water, and a soft humming boat. The traditional brick kiln was impressive, not because it was grand, but because it was honest. At the coconut house, Hannah explained every detail of the process with patience and clarity. Tasting freshly made candy was a treat I didn’t know I needed. The canal cruise into smaller villages showed us untouched nature and a slower way of life. At the weaving village, we sat with local women and shared smiles and stories — a truly human connection.
