We were picked up in Can Tho and driven to Ben Tre, where our amazing guide Duy met us. The boat ride was gentle and scenic, and Duy was full of fascinating insights about river life. At the traditional brick kiln, I was amazed by how everything was done manually — it gave me a sense of timelessness. The coconut house was vibrant and alive with smells, textures, and local laughter. Tasting warm coconut candy straight from the pan was a highlight! The scenery became more enchanting as we entered the narrow canals. Duy guided us on a walk through a peaceful village where we met weavers creating mats with practiced precision. The Xe Loi ride was a unique way to explore — open air, countryside scents, and waving villagers. Lunch in a leafy garden was beautiful and intimate — the elephant ear fish was bursting with flavor. The final boat ride on the sampan felt like a meditation. Duy’s energy, storytelling, and care made this one of the most enriching experiences of my life.
After being picked up in Can Tho, we reached Ben Tre mid-morning and met our lovely guide, Thomas, who instantly made us feel like old friends. The boat ride was beautiful — calm waters and endless coconut trees on both sides. I loved the brick kiln stop; seeing ancient methods still in use gave me a whole new respect for manual labor. The coconut stop was my favorite — Thomas explained everything with such passion, and the samples we tried were absolutely delicious. Seeing the process up close made me want to take home every product! The village walk was quiet and charming. We met women weaving mats and shared a few laughs despite the language barrier. Riding the Xe Loi tuk tuk through dusty trails and shaded paths was like stepping into a movie. The home-cooked lunch was outstanding — the elephant ear fish was so fresh and flavorful. Floating quietly in the sampan afterward was the perfect way to reflect. I felt like I had witnessed something truly real. Thomas was wonderful — knowledgeable and deeply respectful of the locals.
