A Journey Through Time and Nature in the Mekong Delta

This three-day tour with Duy took us deep into the Mekong’s heart. Day one’s cruise on the Mekong River introduced us to traditional brick kilns and pottery workshops, which felt like stepping into another century. The coconut processing stop was both fun and enlightening; I never realized how many products come from coconuts! Sampling homemade treats and interacting with the locals gave a personal touch. The small boat ride weaving through coconut canals was tranquil and picturesque. Lunch in a local garden setting was delicious and a perfect way to experience home-cooked Vietnamese flavors.

On day two, waking early for the floating market at Cai Rang was worth every minute of lost sleep. The colors, sounds, and energy of the market were captivating, and Duy’s explanations helped us understand its cultural significance. The rice noodle family factory was a highlight — a working family business with heart and soul. The afternoon was filled with peaceful sampan rides on quiet canals, a lovely bike tour through villages, and a visit to a charming cacao farm where we tasted fresh cacao milk. The day ended with a delicious lunch, and we felt completely immersed in local life.

Day three’s visit to Tra Su Melaleuca Forest was an awe-inspiring nature experience. We cruised on a motorboat and a slow, hand-rowed sampan, watching birds and enjoying the unique flooded forest environment. The bamboo bridge walk was exciting and scenic. Visiting vast rice fields and a centuries-old Khmer pagoda on the return journey added historical depth to the trip. The option for free drop-off in other cities was convenient and appreciated. This tour was perfectly balanced — culture, nature, history, and local interactions all rolled into one.

From Sunrise Markets to Sacred Forests — A Mekong Journey

This three-day Mekong Delta tour with Thomas was a sensory feast and a cultural journey. Day one began with a scenic drive from Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre. The highlight was cruising the Mekong River and visiting the traditional brick kiln — the smoky air and the hard-working artisans felt like a living museum. Stopping at the coconut workshop was fun and educational. I loved seeing the process and tasting the coconut candy, wine, and oil — so many delicious uses from one humble fruit. Riding the sampan through water coconut canals was magical, like slipping into a different world. The homemade lunch, served outdoors in a garden setting, was fresh, flavorful, and a real treat.

Day two started pre-dawn with a sampan ride to Cai Rang floating market, one of the most iconic experiences in Vietnam. Watching the market come alive at sunrise — the vendors balancing fruit and vegetables on boats, the chatter, and the smells — was extraordinary. Thomas shared stories that brought the market’s history and current challenges to life. The family-run rice noodle factory was surprisingly colorful and interesting, and I loved the tasting session, especially the rice noodle pizza! The quiet canals ride afterward was peaceful, with little sign of tourism, just genuine village life unfolding. The bike ride was a fun way to explore the countryside and meet locals, while the cacao farm was an unexpected delight, where we tasted fresh cacao milk and learned about chocolate production. Lunch was once again authentic and delicious.

Day three was pure nature bliss. Tra Su Melaleuca Forest felt like a sanctuary — the green duckweed covering the water, the flocks of birds flying above, and the calm sampan rides brought a sense of peace. The bamboo walking bridge added adventure and connection to the forest environment. We also visited vast rice fields and a quiet, ancient Khmer pagoda, which gave a spiritual and historical perspective to the trip. This tour was immersive and well-paced — a perfect blend of culture, nature, and local life.
