Surrounded by ancient star trees and green palm trees, Phu Ly Khmer pagoda has a very tranquil setting and is one of the oldest ancient Khmer-style pagodas in Vinh Long, Mekong Delta. The boat trip will cruise from Can Tho to Vinh Long for visiting: Phu Ly pogoda, a hidden village of making  the tofu skin which is recognized as national intangible cultural heritage, and a peaceful plant nursery riverside village.

Itinerary
  • Pickup
    At 8:00 AM (or 02:00 PM), our driver and tour guide will welcome and pick up you at the hotel/accommodation as required (free pickup at the Azerai resort, Victoria resort, hotels in the city center…) and transfer to the boat station for embarking the boat.
  • Phu Ly Khmer pagoda
    The boat will cruise on the Mekong River and then keep going deep into the countryside and canals for reaching the Phu Ly pagoda. Walking around the pagoda, you will feel the peace, airy but no less ancient thanks to the appearance of ancient trees and palm trees. Khmer Phu Ly Pagoda (built in 1672) is an ancient temple in Vinh Long with beautiful & peaceful landscape. This building is the interference between Indian, Thai and Cambodian architecture, creating a unique feature that few temples have.
  • The hidden traditional village of making tofu skin
    The boat takes you to the hidden traditional village of making tofu skin. This traditional job (1912) was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in August 2022. You have a chance to see the locals and learn how the tofu skin - food product is made from soybeans. During the boiling of soy milk, in an open shallow pan, a film or skin composed primarily of a soy protein-lipid complex forms on the liquid surface. The films are collected and dried into yellowish sheets known as tofu skin.
  • The wonderful local peaceful plant nursery riverside village
    Your cruise tour also stops over at the wonderful local peaceful plant nursery riverside village. Vinh Long nursery village is a place where plants are propagated and grown to a desired size. Mostly the plants concerned are for gardening, or selling as veggies and salads, rather than agriculture. And these local private nurseries, which supply the needs of local markets or supermarkets. Some will also work in plant breeding.

    Around 12:00 NOON (or 06:00 PM), finish the tour in Can Tho City.

    Tradition, beauty, and peace — all in half a day

    This tour was everything I needed. Chris was informative but relaxed — no rush, no overexplaining, just the right rhythm.

    Phu Ly pagoda is something special — old, quiet, elegant in a Southeast Asian way I hadn’t seen before.

    The tofu skin village was the surprise of the trip. Watching the thin film form and being lifted — like catching fog with chopsticks — was mesmerizing.

    And the nursery village was just… green and human. Smiling grandmas, kids with watering cans. It felt like a different Vietnam. A real one.

    Hannah explained everything with a calm voice and deep respect for the locals. I was especially moved by the tofu skin workshop — the steam rising from the soy milk, the quiet hands collecting those delicate layers. It was almost poetic.

    The Khmer pagoda felt sacred, even for someone who isn’t religious. And the nursery village? It made me want to slow down in life. I’m taking that feeling home with me.
